We are at the point in our civilization where our moral quandary is that of gene therapy to build babies that aren't degenerate… Or permit, if not actively support, population scale darwinism.
I'll go with build a vicarious baby as the better option, but recognize that having a few strategic traps to remove defective people from our midst is chlorine in the gene pool.
At some point you just have to hit the reboot button on people and send them back to conception.
