Andrew Yang, the tech entrepreneur who rose to prominence in 2020 as a Democratic presidential candidate, filed paperwork Wednesday to begin raising money for a mayoral campaign in New York City.

The filing with the city’s Campaign Finance Board comes just a day after Yang sat down in Harlem with the Rev. Al Sharpton, one of the city’s most influential African American political activists.

The paperwork with the CFB shows that Yang has decided to opt into the city’s public financing system for his run, which provides up to $8 in funding for every dollar that he raises privately.

However, in order to accept the city financing, he also agreed to cap his spending at $7.3 million for the 2021 Democratic primary.

Andrew Yang moving to Georgia to help Democrats in Senate runoff elections

By Ebony BowdenNovember 9, 2020

One-time Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang has announced that he and his family are relocating to Georgia to help Democrats win two races which will determine who controls the US Senate.

“This is our only chance to clear Mitch out of the way and help Joe and Kamala get things done in the next 4 years. More details to come but let’s go!!!” Yang wrote Saturday, referring to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R. Ky).

The fight for control of the Senate continues after two races in the Peach State ended with runoff elections, meaning a second round of elections, when none of the candidates reached 50 percent of the vote, as required by Georgia law.

This means that Sen. Kelly Loeffler, the GOP incumbent, will square off again with Democratic challenger Reverend Raphael Warnock, as will GOP Sen. David Perdue and opponent Jon Ossoff.

The Jan. 5 races are perhaps as meaningful as the race for the White House with control of the Senate hanging in the balance.

With a Republican-controlled Senate, McConnell will have the ability to block any major policy proposals out of a Biden-Harris White House.
