US Navy has knocked back a China claim expelled US Warship From Disputed Waters in the South China Sea
China's state-run Global Times newspaper revealed Tuesday the country's maritime and flying powers had "ousted" the US Warships USS John S. McCain that day from waters close to the Spratly Islands. The paper referred to Senior Col. Tian Junli, a representative at the Chinese military's Southern Theater Command, as its source.
"The US activity was a genuine infringement of China's sway and security, and it gravely disturbed harmony and strength in the South China Sea, which China is fearlessly against," the paper announced, referring to Tian.
China Panic: US Navy to be More Assertive in Countering Beijing in the South China Sea in the Next Year
The US military warned its warships would be "more assertive" in responding to international law violations, citing Beijing, which has expansionist ambitions in the South China Sea.
In a document setting objectives for the US Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard for the coming years, the Pentagon stressed that several countries, notably Russian and China, "are contesting the balance of power in key regions and seeking to undermine the existing world order."
