100ft x 50ft metal barn.

$35k

did my own erection (no pun intended).

barn on AG land means acreage and structure has a $350 year tax note.

(that's a 5k sf building, split half down middle for shop work area and living area. really nice barndomenium inside, also built out of satellite view inside the completed metal structure.)

Sad thing is, it is easier than I expected.

About as expensive as expected tho.

Adjusting to doing extra stuff during daylight is actually the way god intended, sleep at night, do laundry, cook, farm, repair stuff during day.

My guests never know the house is off grid unless I tell them.

I have solar across the roof 100ft span, and water heater tubes are most visible part. I even have a retro land line phone on the wall in the kitchen, it is actually a magic jack on the router and uses the tower-tower internet connection to make it work.

I like retro style, and made everything look old.

cool part is no bills, and no meter readers, and no permits.

Did the septic myself (got a backhoe), and drilled my own well (rented rig).

no one except concrete slab crew, insulation crew, and a friend who does granite counters ever worked on it besides my wife and I.

Bunker is a buried connex, under slab.

(no homeowners and need tornado shelter, plus a safe ammo storage depot.)

Thanks.

Most people think like:

I need to earn more money to have what I want.

And never consider spending less to allow you to keep what you have.

I used to have a home with 4car garage, pool, etc. Paid 400/mo for electric bill, and $5500yr in taxes.

Well, that means I was FORCED to work to earn at LEAST 40k year, and dont forget income tax is another 3rd.

Slavery it was.

Now I only work part time, have more money than I need. (not to mention saved enough to live the rest of my life in cash, gold, alcohol and guns)

Best retirement decision ever.

No worries, can live for 1$ day. Less if not for my taxes. (on property I paid off!)
