CSL's vaccine for Swine Flu was approved in September 2009 for use in Australia by people aged 10 and over.[9] The federal government ordered 21 million doses of vaccine for 2009 A/H1N1 of which eight million were manufactured by CSL. The Australian government intended to use the CSL Vaccine in one of the largest national vaccine programs in the country's history

Relationship with CSL[edit]
ARCBS and its predecessors had a long-standing relationship with the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL), a government medical body founded in 1916. The Red Cross supplied CSL with donated blood for use in research and manufacture of medical products (e.g. serum for transfusion).
In 1994, CSL was privatised, becoming CSL Limited. The ARCBS continued to supply CSL with donated blood.
