It is naïve. They do appear. I posted about my experience previously. I knew from my father that my grandmother had gone for fertility treatments at a particular hospital back in the 40s. A "helper" told me that the particular hospital had done genetic manipulation without me having provided info to them. The info given me was very helpful and answered some questions I had about my situation. They are here.
