Journalism Funding

Like grants for research- maybe? But the issue is that money can taint the outcome. And some of this, well, Facebook before but Twitter to? And Soros?

"Grantmaking for journalism has increased over the past decade, as funders have moved to offset the decline of newspapers. While a handful of foundations broadly support nonprofit journalism organizations and projects, many grant opportunities are issue-specific and come from funders with interests in a given area, like health or the environment. "

The following comes from site above:

The Council on Foreign Relations offers a grouping of fellowships that align with the organization’s foreign policy interests.

"Gee, I thought journalism was supposed to be impartial. Is this a payoff to those who write what the CFR wants to hear?"

"Social media companies have been hard at work to make sure they play a helpful rather than harmful role in disseminating news and information about the coronavirus pandemic. Today, Twitter took an extra step beyond its own platform to put its efforts into the wider, already under-pressure world of journalism. Twitter announced that it would be donating $1 million equally between two organizations, the Committee to Protect Journalists and the International Women’s Media Foundation, to further their work specifically related to supporting those reporting on COVID-19."

"The Open Society Program on Independent Journalism supports journalism that verifies, exposes, and explains reality while inspiring the kind of self-reflection and critical thinking that open society requires.

We support efforts to build a free and safe environment for journalism. We also help investigative journalism collectives network across borders, exchange expertise, and refine methods and tools for exposing abuses of power, corporate wrongdoing, and corruption that undermine democratic values and institutions.

We support independent and open journalism, especially where trustworthy information is scarce. We fund startups seeking to enter and enrich the public debate, organizations determined to grow and innovate, and media entrepreneurs with new ideas for strengthening and defending independent journalism all over the world."

"OSF’s mission is “to build vibrant and tolerant societies whose governments are accountable and open to the participation of all people.” It has spent nearly $12 billion since its launch in 1979 by Hungarian-born financier George Soros. One of its first initiatives was “to distribute photocopiers to universities, libraries, and civil society groups, breaking the communist party’s grip on information” in Soros’s native country.

The Open Society Foundations (OSF) Program on Independent Journalism (PIJ) works directly with journalists, media outlets, media associations, and media freedom groups “to promote independent and viable media and professional, quality journalism in countries undergoing a process of democratization, and building functioning media markets."

I can't even begin with Soros funding with any alleged journalism.

Some sites I've looked at are less non-legit.
