"Cowpens First Baptist Church members were saddened but remained optimistic Saturday after their church caught fire. Firefighters from multiple departments responded at 2:36 p.m. Saturday to 108 W. Church St., for a reported structure fire. When they arrived on the scene, the church was fully engulfed and billowing smoke from the second floor, fire officials said.
Cowpens Fire Chief Tony Blanton said firefighters weren't able to go inside the structure so they set up a perimeter and sprayed water onto it, hoping to contain it. One firefighter suffered minor injuries while fighting the blaze and there were no other injuries, Blanton said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fire departments from Cowpens, Converse, Drayton, Corinth, Macedonia and Goucher White Plains were among those who responded."
