CUT-UP TECHNIQUE

Not sure if this can be helpful in advancing our new re_read / mirror arrangement of Q/A drop pairs, or if it's just interesting background:

When anons figured out that pasting separate blocks of text together and reading across to form new meaning, I was almost immediately reminded of the cut-up technique that William S. Burroughs popularized.

It has roots in Dadaism/Surrealism, and Burroughs dealt extensively in extradimensional modes of thought, communication, etc.

The idea was to cut pieces of text from various sources and arrange them into a new text.

As Bill said, "When you cut into the present the future leaks out."

Q is doing the cutting part, and we are asked to do the assembly into new texts.

"Future proves past" certainly rhymes with Burroughs' idea of how textual manipulation can help transcend the normal rules of temporal dimensions.
