As you get to the top of a tall mountain, the thinner the air gets thinner. It gets colder. The air gets so thin and cold that the snow never melts and the plants and trees cannot grow and the snow never melts and there is nothing to block the ravenous winds. The burden gets heavier and it takes more calories to fuel each step.
