Georgia Makes Early Ballot Counting Mandatory In Jan. 5 Runoff

The upcoming runoff elections in Georgia will operate in the same manner as the Nov. 3 election, except for one minor change, a spokesperson from the secretary of state’s office says.

Counties are allowed to start tallying the absentee and mail-in ballots two weeks before the Jan. 5 runoff, the spokesperson told The Epoch Times.

This time, though, it will be required starting on Dec. 30, one week before Election Day. Consequently, results should be posted much more quickly than in November, when it took days before an unofficial result was available.

“We had some counties in the general election who didn’t take advantage of the extra time, and as a result, we were waiting on them,” the spokesperson said. He said some counties waited until Election Day to start counting their mail-in ballots.

Responding to criticism from poll watchers who said they didn’t have meaningful access to the counting process, the spokesperson said “most parts of the election process are open to the public.”

“But the law doesn’t require them to have to be close enough to where they can actually look on the ballots and make their own opinion about whether or not that was a mark for Smith or Brown,” he said.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, has said the Nov. 3 election was run well and he stands by the results. However, he said on Dec. 23 that he wants the state to stop allowing no-excuse absentee balloting during elections, saying the method “opens the door to potential illegal voting.”

Currently, anyone who wants to vote by mail can do so by applying for an absentee ballot—a provision that has been in place since 2005, but until this year was only ever used by 5 to 7 percent of voters.

“It makes no sense when we have three weeks of in-person early voting available,” Raffensperger said at a state hearing on Dec. 23.

Early voting for the runoff began on Dec. 7, and all but overseas ballots must be cast or received by 7 p.m. on Jan. 5.

Overseas ballots and ballot curing can still occur through Jan. 8, but the number of ballots in those categories are expected to be fairly low, the spokesperson said. Ballot curing is most common in mail-in ballots, when the voter hasn’t signed the outer envelope. In this case, the local elections office contacts the voter and allows them to correct the mistake via a provisional ballot.

As of Dec. 22, more than 1.7 million ballots had already been cast in the runoff, the spokesperson said.

The election will decide two U.S. Senate seats as well as the state’s public utility commissioner.

Iran tells US & Israel not to cross ‘red lines’ in Gulf after reports of submarine deployments

Tehran said on Monday that it will defend itself, warning the United States and Israel against setting out on any “adventures” during the Trump administration’s final days in office, and as regional tensions simmer.

The US Navy said a week ago a nuclear submarine was being deployed to the Gulf, and Israeli media later reported that an Israeli submarine had crossed the Suez Canal and was headed for the Gulf.

The report of Israeli deployment has not been confirmed officially, but Tehran on Monday reminded all players in the region that it has laid down limits for encroachment on its national security.

“Everybody knows what the Persian Gulf means to Iran, and what policy Iran pursues about its national interests and security,” Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh told reporters. “They are aware of the risks of crossing Iran’s red lines.”

Tehran has accused Israel of myriad anti-Iran operations, including the assassination last month of senior nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

Khatibzadeh also said that Iran has sent “messages to the US government and our friends in the region [warning] the current US regime not to embark on a new adventure in its final days at the White House.” He added that Iran was not seeking to increase tension, and called for “rational people in Washington” to do the same until President-elect Joe Biden is inaugurated.

Meanwhile, Washington has accused Iran of involvement in a rocket attack last week near its embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. Khatibzadeh said Tehran “dismisses and condemns” the allegations made by US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo against Iran after the attack in Iraq.

Instead, the spokesman accused the US administration of changing neighboring countries into “bases of insecurity” against Iran. The latest exchange of terse remarks and accusations come just weeks before the first anniversary of the killing of top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani in a US drone strike in January 2020.

Swedish government asks for powers to close down shops & restaurants, fine people for breaking Covid-19 rules

The Swedish government has proposed a bill that would allow it to close businesses and fine Covid-19 rule-breakers. Officials previously said the old model of containing the virus was a "failure."

If approved by parliament, the law would take effect on January 10 and stand until the end of September 2021.

“In very serious situations, the government will be able to decide on more extensive measures to prevent crowding,” Health Minister Lena Hallengren said at a news briefing.

“That includes the closure of shops, public transport, shopping centers, or other kinds of businesses that fall under the new law.”

The law would give the government powers to close down various businesses, including restaurants and gyms, and to impose curfews and other coronavirus-related restrictions on their work.

Business Minister Ibrahim Baylan said the measures could apply to places like shopping malls, “where the risk of the spread of the infection is high and where there is a lot of congestion.”

The legislation would also allow officials to limit public gatherings in city squares, parks and beaches.

Those who break the rules could be fined up to 4,000 krona ($484).

Hallengren said the government will choose “appropriate” measures depending on the spread of the infection and other related circumstances.

The proposed bill represents a shift in Sweden’s general policy toward Covid-19. Since the early days of the pandemic, the country has been largely relying on voluntary social distancing and basic hygiene, rather than the sweeping lockdowns and tougher restrictions imposed in other European states and fellow Nordic nations.

The ‘Swedish model’ sparked intense debate at home and abroad. The government has quietly acknowledged that more stringent measures are required against the virus.

“I think we have failed. We have a large number of deaths, and that is terrible,” Sweden's reigning monarch, King Carl XVI Gustaf, said in a televised address earlier this month, as the death toll surpassed 7,000.

Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said he agreed with the king’s remarks, and that the high death toll “can’t be considered as anything other than a failure.”

As of December 21, 7,802 people have died from Covid-19 in Sweden, according to government data.

‘The government was trying to kill him anyway’: Epstein’s fellow inmates claim he was suicidal due to abuse & threats, report says

While in jail, sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was harassed and extorted by other prisoners and abused by guards, which may have led him to end his own life there, a new report claims, citing accounts by his fellow inmates.

“Before he died by suicide, Jeffrey Epstein got an early taste of hell,”says the New York Daily News, claiming to have interviewed several inmates of the Metropolitan Correctional Center, where the disgraced financier was held prior to his death.

“He was saying he’s going to kill himself because the government is trying to kill him anyway,” said one inmate, whose name the paper did not reveal.

Angelique Lopez, the niece of Efrain Reyes, Epstein’s last cellmate, said that the multimillionaire sex offender “was very depressed,” according to her uncle. “He mentioned to my uncle that he didn’t want to live anymore and my uncle was telling him, “Don’t do any of this while I’m in the room.”

Prison staffers “were treating him like crap,” according to her, making Epstein sleep on the floor, and not letting him get on a bunk.

According to The News, Epstein did not only suffer abuse from the guards, being in the “crosshairs” of other inmates out for his money. Some threatened him for it, others easily swindled the disgraced financier, to the tune of $4,000 he supposedly had to spend on contraband.

“They’re trying to sell you everything – phones, electronics, a better cell,” the unnamed inmate said. “When he got in there everyone was fighting over who would get him. … He was getting ripped off left and right.”

Some prisoners would slide notes under the door, saying “We’re going to kill you, you rapist, you pedophile,” the inmate said.

Despite Epstein potentially being on the verge of suicide prior to his death, Reyes doubted the man could have killed himself in the cell, according to his niece.

“My uncle kept saying the bunk beds weren’t tall enough to do something like that. It didn’t make sense. The beds weren’t that tall. It just didn’t seem right to my uncle,” she said.

Since Epstein’s death, the hope of bringing any of his co-conspirators to justice now rests with the ongoing prosecution of Ghislaine Maxwell, his alleged sex-trafficking accomplice.

Earlier this month Maxwell’s lawyers wrote complaints about their clients’ jail conditions. According to them, the former socialite is having a rough time in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, losing weight and even her hair.

It's Long Past Time For CDC To Clean-Up The COVID-19 Death Counts

Some of us have been questioning the COVID-19 death counts reported by the CDC through the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) for some time.

Of course, CNN and the corporate media love the likely elevated counts to push their narrative. Lockdown Inc. loves them to justify their destruction of lives and livelihoods. A report from the Freedom Foundation, a Washington State think tank, explains why. The foundation’s original analysis of deaths in the state found the number may have been inflated by as much as 13%:

In May, a report released by the Freedom Foundation, an Olympia-based free-market think tank, revealed the DOH was attributing to COVID-19 every death in which the deceased previously tested positive for the virus. However, it’s clear that catching the disease and dying of it are two very different matters.

Washington’s data was riddled with cases - as much as 13 percent of the total - in which the death certificate made no reference to COVID-19 as a cause of death. In several cases, even gunshot deaths were chalked up to the virus.

While the Department of Health did remove 200 deaths from the count, the Freedom Foundation did another analysis. Combining data sources from the Department of Health for nearly 2,000 deaths as of early September, the new analysis found that 170 death certificates did not mention COVID-19. Another 171 deaths had no causal connection to the virus. According to the Post Millennial, the group estimates Washington’s death counts could be inflated by as much as 20%.

New data from the CDC regarding the conditions contributing to deaths where COVID-19 is also involved clearly demonstrates deaths from the virus are overestimated nationwide. This is not surprising given the loose guidelines for attributing a death to COVID-19 and the financial incentives through public and private insurance to put COVID-19 on a patient’s chart.

First, as I have written several times, many COVID-19-positive people who were terminally ill died a few months before they otherwise would have. These “pull-forward deaths” often happen with influenza and pneumonia when a person is elderly or severely compromised. For example, the data shows 3,622 people over the age of 75 died of hypertensive renal disease with kidney failure. Kidney failure is a progressive and terminal condition, even with kidney dialysis. An additional 939 in the same age group died with lung cancer as well as COVID-19.

Second, the report demonstrates most younger patients were also suffering from a different severe illness if they died from COVID-19. On the same line for kidney failure, a total of 18 people under the age of 35 passed away with this condition and COVID-19. Ten people under the age of 35 died with acute lymphoblastic lymphoma (ALL) in addition to the virus. The average five-year survival rate in this age group is between 68.1% and 85%, leaving the distinct possibility that these were the sickest ALL patients.

World's First COVID 'Human Challenge' Begins As UK Prepares To Infect 2,500 Volunteers

2,500 healthy Britons are about to participate in the world's first COVID-19 'human challenge' - letting the government infect them with SARS-CoV-2 in order to see how the virus reacts to an experimental vaccine, according to The Times.

The fist stage of the study, conducted by Imperial College, the National Health Service's Royal Free Hospital and hVIVO - experts in viral human challenge models, kicks off in January, and will track an initial group of 90 subjects aged 18-30 who will receive an experimental nasal vaccine before being infected with the disease in a "secure bio-containment suite."

When the government announced the human trial, they said "the aim will be to discover the smallest amount of virus it takes to cause a person to develop Covid-19 infection," adding "This is known as a virus characterisation study and will be backed by £33.6 million of government investment."

Volunteers will be paid approximately £4,000 (US$5350) for their 2-3 week stay at the Royal Free Hospital, where they will bravely risk the less than 1% chance of death, plus unknown potential side-effects from the experimental nasal vaccine (along with others), according to the Mail Online, which adds that participants will be expected to attend follow-up appointments for approximately a year.

One test subject, Alastair Fraser-Urquhart, 18, says he signed up for the trials to 'bring the world out of the pandemic sooner,' telling BBC Radio 4 that he'll be locked up for at least two weeks while his body's response is monitored.

China sentences early COVID whistleblower to 4 years in jail for exposing truth about the virus

A Chinese court on Monday handed down a four-year jail sentence to a citizen-journalist who raised alarms about the coronavirus outbreak from its epicenter in Wuhan last year.

Zhang Zhan, 37, was one of several citizen-journalists in the country to offer firsthand accounts of the outbreak, which portrayed crowded hospitals and empty streets and illustrated to the world that the situation in Wuhan was far worse than the communist government was letting on.

Zhang arrived in Wuhan in early February to document the city's fight against the deadly new virus and posted her findings online, some of which were critical of the Chinese government, Reuters reported. Her posts on YouTube reportedly "consist[ed] of interviews with residents, commentary and footage of a crematorium, train stations, hospitals and the Wuhan Institute of Virology."

She was arrested in May on allegations of spreading false information, granting interviews to foreign media, disrupting social order, and criticizing the government, according to NBC News.

Her lawyers claimed in court, according to Reuters, that police "strapped her hands and force-fed her with a tube" and that by December "she was suffering headaches, giddiness, stomach ache, low blood pressure and a throat infection."

On Monday, the Pudong New Area People's Court in Shanghai sentenced her to four years in jail for "picking quarrels and provoking trouble," one of her lawyers confirmed to the news agency, adding, "We will probably appeal."

"I don't understand. All she did was say a few true words, and for that she got four years," Zhang's mother, who was present at the trial with her husband, said.

Humanitarian critics have sounded the alarm over China's treatment and subsequent punishment of Zhang.

"We are deeply concerned by the 4-year prison sentence imposed on citizen journalist Zhang Zhan," the UN Human Rights office tweeted. "We raised her case with the authorities throughout 2020 as an example of the excessive clampdown on freedom of expression linked to [COVID-19] & continue to call for her release."

Kenneth Roth, the executive director of Human Rights Watch, blasted the timing of the sentencing, suggesting Chinese authorities waited until the holiday season to avoid attention and scrutiny from the West.

"Beijing's selection of the sleepy period between Christmas and New Year's suggests even it is embarrassed to sentence citizen-journalist Zhang Zhan to four years in prison for having chronicled the uncensored version of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan," he said.

Chinese authorities worked hard to cover up the dangers of the virus during the early days of the outbreak, censuring and detaining a number of doctors and journalists in Wuhan.

A study released in March found that if interventions in China has been "conducted one week, two weeks, or three weeks earlier, cases could have been reduced by 66 percent, 86 percent and 95 percent respectively — significantly limiting the geographical spread of the disease."

Jeffrey Epstein’s Former Cell Mate Is Dead, With No Further Explanation

Five months after being released from jail for contracting COVID-19, Jeffrey Epstein's former cell mate has died.

Five months after being released from jail due to contracting COVID-19, Efrain “Stone” Reyes, has died. Neither his lawyer nor the Southern District of New York have issued a public comment on his death.

A misleading headline from the New York Daily News indicated that Reyes, who was the last man to share a cell with Jeffrey Epstein before the billionaire pedophile’s alleged suicide, died from complications related to COVID-19. In reality, Reyes’ niece indicated she believed his life was shortened due to COVID-19, but noted that he recovered from the disease in the more than five months since he contracted it.

Reyes’ niece, Angelique Lopez, told New York Daily News, “I can’t say COVID didn’t play a part (in his death). He came back coughing more than normal. His lungs weren’t the same.”

Reyes was released in April and died five months later in September. His death was not reported publicly until today.

According to the press, the Medical Examiner has not determined the cause of Reyes’ death. The New York Daily News notes that “He suffered from heart problems and was diabetic,” but does not claim that he contracted COVID-19 a second time before his death.

According to Lopez, Reyes told her that Epstein was abused by both guards and inmates while incarcerated, and feared reprisal should he report the misbehavior:

“They knew how much money he had. They said let’s push him around and extort him for money. They thought they could get his money,” Lopez said.

“(Staff) were treating him like crap. They were making him sleep on the floor. They wouldn’t let him sleep on a cot.”

Reyes, who pleaded guilty to a narcotics conspiracy involving crack and heroin at Bronx housing projects, saw firsthand that Epstein was trapped between inmates and cruel correctional officers, according to Lopez.

More than a year after Epstein allegedly committed suicide while in a New York jail cell, only hours after being removed from suicide watch, the pedophile’s sordid legacy continues to ripple through American politics.

What's the background?

The New York Times published an interview with Fauci on Christmas Eve — essentially allowing the story to be buried in the holiday news slump — in which Fauci admitted to moving the goalposts on COVID-19 herd immunity for very unscientific reasons.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Fauci said publicly that as little as 60% of the American public would need COVID-19 immunity to achieve herd immunity. But Fauci slowly increased that number as the pandemic raged on, even suggesting in his interview with the Times that as much as 90% of the American public would need immunity to reach the herd immunity threshold.

Fauci admitted he changed his numbers because of public polling data and to covertly encourage more Americans to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Times reported:

In a telephone interview the next day, Dr. Fauci acknowledged that he had slowly but deliberately been moving the goal posts. He is doing so, he said, partly based on new science, and partly on his gut feeling that the country is finally ready to hear what he really thinks.

"When polls said only about half of all Americans would take a vaccine, I was saying herd immunity would take 70 to 75 percent," Fauci admitted. "Then, when newer surveys said 60 percent or more would take it, I thought, ʻI can nudge this up a bit,' so I went to 80, 85."

"We need to have some humility here," he added. "We really don't know what the real number is. I think the real range is somewhere between 70 to 90 percent. But, I'm not going to say 90 percent."

Top Pandemic Scientist Admits Emulating Communist Chinese Model to Strip Civil Liberties Away

Professor Neil Ferguson, an epidemiologist who played a key role in convincing the British government to adopt lockdowns, revealed that the country’s lockdowns were meant to emulate those carried out by the Chinese Communist Party – modeled to strip civil liberties and exert authoritarian control over citizens.

In Ferguson’s recent interview with The Times, he revealed that lockdowns he championed as part of Britain’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) Board, were rooted in those carried out by the Chinese Communist Party. Dubbed “Professor Lockdown” by many for his contributions to swaying the British government to adopt stringent lockdown measures, Ferguson ultimately stepped down from the SAGE board after he violated his own lockdown protocols.

In the December 25th interview, he noted that “there is an enormous cost associated with” lockdowns, especially concerning the restriction of civil liberties. He notes, however, once the Chinese Communist Party enacted their repressive lockdown “people’s sense of what is possible in terms of control changed”:

“I think people’s sense of what is possible in terms of control changed quite dramatically between January and March. […]If China had not done it the year would have been very different.”

While Ferguson was “skeptical at first” that China had “flattened the curve,” adding he “thought it was a massive cover-up by the Chinese,” he reveals the Chinese Communist Party’s data was what convinced him that lockdowns were “effective policy.”

Leaked documents reveal and even establishment media reports now concede that data emanating from the Chinese Communist Party at the onset of the pandemic – the impetus behind Ferguson championing lockdowns – was faulty.

He insists again in the interview that Britain’s lockdowns were designed to emulate those executed by the a “communist one-party state”, specifically the Chinese Communist Party:

“It’s a communist one-party state, we said. We couldn’t get away with it in Europe, we thought. And then Italy did it. And we realized we could.”

Stacey Abrams: ‘Republicans Do Not Know How to Win Without Voter Suppression’

Monday on CNN’s “New Day,” failed 2018 Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams claimed that “Republicans do not know how to win” elections “without voter suppression.”

Ahead of the upcoming January 5 Georgia Senate runoffs, Abrams, who is still not accepting the 2018 election results over allegations of voter suppression, argued that when Republicans are not able to suppress voters, there is record turnout.

“[Y]ou know, the president still denies the outcome of this election, and Republicans around the country [are] drawing on that to already begin writing up voting restrictions, right, to bring back some of the voter expansion measures we saw in this cycle, including mail-in ballots , et cetera. Do you see that effort ticking up again after this cycle in state legislatures around the country, where frankly Republicans have an enormous advantage, and if so, what are you going to do about it?” CNN’s Jim Sciutto asked.

“We are going to do what we’ve been doing, which is we are going to work to mitigate voter suppression,” Abrams replied. “You’re absolutely right. when voter suppression was put on its heels in the 2020 election, through the work of Fair Fight 2020 and other organizations around the country, we saw voters turn out in record numbers and in record composition in Michigan, in Wisconsin, in Pennsylvania and Arizona, here in Georgia. Fishermen: Boris ‘Bottled It’, Brexit Deal ‘A Defeat’ for ‘Sacrificed’ Industry

Barrie Deas, chief executive of the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations (NFFO), says Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal is “a defeat”, with the Tory accused of having “bottled it” on fishing and “sacrificed” the country’s long-suffering fishermen.

“When push came to shove, despite the legal, moral and political strength of our case, fishing was sacrificed,” Deas lamented in a St Stephen’s Day interview reacting to news that Johnson’s deal included a further five-and-a-half year “transition” for EU trawlers — on top of the almost four years they have already had since the 2016 vote to leave the EU — to plunder British fisheries, with promises of full sovereignty after this period looking increasingly shaky.

“[T]he EU made the whole trade deal contingent on a UK surrender on fisheries,” the fishing industry leader continued.

“In the end-game, the Prime Minister made the call and caved in on fish, despite the rhetoric and assurances that he would not do what Ted Heath did in 1973,” he added.

Edward ‘Ted’ Heath was the controversial Tory prime minister who took Britain into the European Economic Community (EEC), as the EU then was, without a referendum.

Brussels had changed its rules to designate fisheries as a so-called “common resource” until its management right before the British joined, bringing the richest fisheries in Western Europe with them, in a move which would prove devastating for the country’s fishermen as the bloc shared out the lion’s share of stocks to foreign fleets.

Heath had known the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) would deliver a hammer blow to the British fishing industry but pressed on anyway, with official notes released decades later revealing officials had decided fishermen were “expendable”.

Rep. Mo Brooks: ‘Dozens’ of House Members Joining Jan. 6 Electoral College Challenge

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), the GOP leader of a plan to challenge Electoral College votes on Jan. 6, said that “dozens” of House members are going to sponsor a measure to object.

“There are dozens in the House of Representatives who have reached that conclusion that I have; we’re going to sponsor and co-sponsor objections to the Electoral College vote returns,” Brooks told Fox News on Monday morning.

The move, which has to occur during the Joint Session of Congress on Jan. 6, requires a member of the House and a member of the Senate to carry out. So far, Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) has suggested he might join Brooks and the other GOP House lawmakers. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has also suggested he might as well. Neither Tuberbille nor Paul have made public statements affirming the effort.

Members of the Senate leadership, namely Majority Whip John Thune (R-Ky.), have said the effort led by Brooks is doomed to fail regardless of who joins him.

Meanwhile, Brooks said in the Fox interview that it’s still not clear whether any Republican senator will partake in the challenge.

“The real issue is whether we have any senators who have done their homework and have studied what has transpired … that there has been massive voter fraud and election theft unlike anything we have seen in American history,” Brooks said.

Over the weekend, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), in comments widely publicized by news outlets, referred to Brooks’s effort as “a scam.”

“It is sad to the extent that we’ve got Republicans who are unwilling to do their homework or unwilling to make tough decisions,” Brooks said, referring to Kinzinger’s weekend comments. “If he would do his homework he would understand that the evidence is overwhelming and he can either surrender to the people who support voter fraud elections or he can fight for his country on this particular issue,” Brooks noted.

For weeks, Brooks has said he isn’t giving up his plan to object to the electoral votes of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona.

The challenge has been used by Democrats in past elections, the latest being against former President George W. Bush’s election.

Brooks previously told The Epoch Times that he believes that the Electoral College vote can be rejected, and the election can ultimately be decided by the House of Representatives.

Residents in the Windy City endured another deadly weekend over the Christmas break, when at least 7 people were murdered and 27 injured in a series of shootings across the nation’s third largest metropolis.

“The Chicago Sun-Times reported that three people were killed in South Chicago early Sunday in a shooting. The three fatalities on Christmas included a shooting victim in Gage Park. A 20-year-old male was found with gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen, the report said,” reports Fox News.

“The Rockford Register Star reported that 2020 has been the city’s deadliest year for homicides, according to records that date back to 1965. Thirty-five people have been killed in the city this year, breaking the previous record of 31 in 1996,” adds Fox.

Minnesota lawmakers say coronavirus deaths could be inflated by 40% after reviewing death certificates

Two Minnesota state lawmakers are calling for an audit of death certificates that were attributed to the coronavirus, saying COVID-19 deaths could have been inflated by 40%.

State Rep. Mary Franson and state Sen. Scott Jensen released a video last week revealing that after reviewing thousands of death certificates in the state, 40% did not have COVID-19 as the underlying cause of death.

“I have other examples where COVID isn’t the underlying cause of death, where we have a fall. Another example is we have a freshwater drowning. We have dementia. We have a stroke and multiorgan failure,” Franson said in the video.

She added that in one case, a person who was ejected from a car was “counted as a COVID death” because the virus was in his system.

Franson said she and a team reviewed 2,800 “death certificate data points” and found that about 800 of them did not have the virus as the underlying cause of death.

Jensen pointed out that he gained attention back in April when he criticized the Minnesota Department of Health for following federal guides on recording coronavirus deaths.

“I sort of got myself in hot water way back in April when I made the comment that I was, as a physician, being encouraged to do death certificates differently with COVID-19 than with other disease entities,” Jensen said.

“For 17 years, the CDC document that guides us as physicians to do death certificates has stood, but this year, we were told, through the Department of Health and the CDC, that the rules were changing if COVID-19 was involved.”

“If it’s COVID-19, we’re told now it doesn’t matter if it was actually the diagnosis that caused death. If someone had it, they died of it,” he said.

Jensen and Franson’s video comes after months of people across the country claiming their loved one’s death certificate listed the virus as the cause of death despite suffering from other ailments that would have caused death.

In Tennessee, for example, a hospital retracted a death certificate for a man who tested negative for the virus three times but was listed as a victim of the pandemic.

In Colorado, a county coroner’s office pushed back against the state’s claim that another victim, who tested positive for the virus, died of it in Montezuma County despite dying of alcohol poisoning.

Franson and Jensen noted in their video that while the deaths attributed to the virus appear inflated, this does not mean the virus should be treated without caution.

“The COVID-19 disease is real. There is no question,” Jensen said.

Bill Gates is now best known as a philanthropist, not the guy who started Microsoft or was the avatar for everyone’s annoyance with Windows 95.

Now, apparently, he wants to save us from the sun.

Gates, for those of you who don’t follow these things, has been big on both vaccination and pandemic prevention. Fair enough. That certainly means his moment has arrived.

However, he’s about as much of a lockdown guy as you can get — which is just fine if you’re a billionaire who can afford to hide away as if this were Poe’s “The Masque of the Red Death,” but the real-world consequences for the rest of us can be, ahem, problematic.

However, while you may have been paying attention to his efforts on vaccination and lockdowns, you may not have noticed that one of Gates’ most controversial causes just got a go-ahead: A project that would help block out the sun.

This sounds a bit like the plot to “Highlander 2: The Quickening,” but it’s nothing near that science fiction-y.

According to Reuters, a Harvard University project plans to test out a controversial theory that global warming can be stopped by spraying particles into the atmosphere that would reflect the sun’s rays.

The project represents one of the most controversial aspects of what’s known as “geoengineering” — the idea that, to tackle issues like climate change, massive aspects of our ecosystem can be played with or changed. In this case, it would involve reflecting some of the sun’s rays to stop them from reaching Earth.

“Open-air research into spraying tiny, sun-reflecting particles into the stratosphere, to offset global warming, has been stalled for years by controversies – including that it could discourage needed cuts in greenhouse gas emissions,” Reuters reported.

“In a small step, the Swedish Space Corporation agreed this week to help Harvard researchers launch a balloon near the Arctic town of Kiruna next June. It would carry a gondola with 600 kg of scientific equipment 20 km (12 miles) high.”

The Harvard team, whose project is known as SCoPEx, is funded in large part by Gates, according to an August report in the U.K. Daily Mail. Bill Gates wants to spray millions of tonnes of dust into the stratosphere to stop global warming… but critics fear it could trigger calamity”)

The journal Nature was less judgmental.

The Big Apple saw almost one in seven nationally recognized chain-store branches close their doors as the pandemic sent consumers scurrying for cover, according to a new report.

A record high 1,057 chain stores — including 70 Duane Reades, 49 Starbucks and 22 Papyruses — have waved the white flag over the past 12 months, according to the Center for an Urban Future’s annual “State of the Chains” report, set to be ­released Wednesday.

If you go back to 2018, 0.3 percent of all chain stores in the city shut down permanently.

This year, that figure has skyrocketed to 13.3 percent…

The 13.3 percent decline shatters all previous records reported by the nonprofit agency since it began tracking the data 13 years ago. Last year, just 3.7 percent of all chain outlets closed, up from 0.3 percent in 2018.

Of course the same thing is happening all over the nation. Empty retail buildings now litter the landscape, and it is only going to get worse.

Top Dem slaps down Trump's demand for COVID package spending cuts and calls it 'dead on arrival' after he finally caved and signed relief bill - while Mitch McConnell makes no mention of President's $2,000 check demand in statement

After Donald Trump finally caved and signed the $900 billion coronavirus relief package Sunday night, the House Appropriations Committee chairwoman called the president's proposed spending cuts dead on arrival.

A spokesperson for New York Representative Nita Lowey, whose committee holds the power of the federal purse, said Trump's red-lined version of the sweeping aid and funding legislation is 'DOA.'

The president also included a demand that while Congress cuts out what he calls unnecessary spending, they also up direct checks for Americans from the $600 already included in the bill to $2,000.

'As President, I have told Congress that I want far less wasteful spending and more money going to the American people in the form of $2,000 checks per adult and $600 per child,' he said in a statement announcing his signage Sunday evening.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, in a statement lauding the president's signage, did not mention Trump's demand for tripling direct checks for most Americans.

McConnell worked day and night with other congressional leaders the last two weeks in negotiations to strike a deal after a nine-month deadlock before breaking for the Christmas holiday.

Seemingly out of nowhere, Trump suggested last week that he could veto the legislation after it overwhelmingly passed in Congress Tuesday and was sent to his desk for signature.

Trump ended a crisis of his own making Sunday by finally signing the $2.3 trillion bill, which includes the $900 billion in coronavirus relief and $1.4 trillion for government funding through September 2021.

His signage stopped 14 million Americans from losing their unemployment benefits boost, courtesy of previous relief packages, and averted a government shutdown in the midst of the pandemic.

Although the bipartisan bill was signed, it was sent back to Congress with several red line items from the president marking out the spending he wants cut. The president does not have the power to line-item veto per a Supreme Court ruling that it is unconstitutional.

'I will send back to Congress a redlined version, item by item, accompanied by the formal rescission request to Congress insisting that those funds be removed from the bill,' Trump said in a strongly-worded statement Sunday night accompanied by the signage announcement.

His signature came after he spent much of his weekend golfing in Mar-a-Lago railing against the legislation.

CDC Issues New Guidelines, Launches Probe After 1000s Negatively-Affected Following COVID-19 Vaccination

As of Dec. 18, 3,150 people reported what the agency terms “Health Impact Events” after getting vaccinated.

The definition of the term is: “unable to perform normal daily activities, unable to work, required care from doctor or health care professional.”

As The Epoch Times' Zachary Stieber reports, the people reporting the negative effects reported them through V-safe, a smartphone application. The tool uses text messages and web surveys to provide personalized health check-ins and allows users to quickly tell the CDC if they are experiencing side effects.

The CDC and Pfizer, which produces the vaccine with BioNTech, didn’t respond to request for comments.

The information was presented by Dr. Thomas Clark, a CDC epidemiologist, to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, an independent panel that provides recommendations to the agency, on Saturday.

The CDC said that 272,001 doses of the vaccine were administered as of Dec. 19. That means most people who were vaccinated did not experience negative effects.

The CDC has identified six case reports of anaphylaxis, or severe allergic reaction, that occurred following vaccination with the new vaccine, Clark reported. Other case reports were reviewed and determined not to be of anaphylaxis.

In an update on Friday, the agency stressed that anyone who has ever had a severe allergic reaction to any ingredient in a COVID-19 vaccine should not get that vaccine. People with severe allergic reactions to other vaccines should consult their doctor about getting the new vaccine while those with a history of anaphylaxis not related to vaccines “may still get vaccinated.”

“CDC recommends that people with a history of severe allergic reactions not related to vaccines or injectable medications - such as allergies to food, pet, venom, environmental, or latex - may still get vaccinated," the CDC said.

"People with a history of allergies to oral medications or a family history of severe allergic reactions, or who might have a milder allergy to vaccines (no anaphylaxis) - may also still get vaccinated.”

Anyone who experiences anaphylaxis after getting the first vaccine should not get the second shot, the CDC said. COVID-19 vaccines are meant to be given across two doses, spaced about three weeks apart.

At least five healthcare workers in Alaska experienced adverse reactions after getting the Pfizer vaccine, the Anchorage Daily News reported. One of two experiencing adverse reactions at the Bartlett Regional Hospital required treatment at the hospital for at least two nights.

An Illinois hospital halted vaccinations after four workers suffered adverse reactions.

Dr. Peter Marks, the director of Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, told reporters in a call on Thursday night that the agency is working with the CDC, and colleagues in the United Kingdom, on probing the allergic reactions.

“We’ll be looking at all of the data we can from each of these reactions to sort out exactly what happened. And we’ll also be looking to try to understand which components of the vaccine might be helping to produce them,” he said.

University of Miami Study Investigates Effects of COVID-19 Vaccine on Male Fertility

The University of Miami is investigating the possible effects of the coronavirus vaccine on male fertility.

Lead researchers Dr. Ranjith Ramasamy, a reproductive urologist with U Health, initiated an earlier study which found the virus was present in the testicles for up to six months following infection.

That spurred his team to question the virus’ effect on sperm and reproduction.

His team is now looking at the potential impact of the vaccine as well.

“We’re evaluating the sperm parameters and quality before the vaccine and after the vaccine. From the biology of the COVID vaccine we believe it shouldn’t affect fertility but we want to do the study to make sure that man who want to have kids in the future to assure them it’s safe to go ahead and get the vaccine,” Ramasamy said.

Study participants must have a fertility evaluation before receiving the vaccine.

To protect fertility, some men may want to consider freezing their sperm prior to vaccination.

Jewish non-profit played significant role in Trump pardons: Report

Aleph Institute, which focuses on Jewish prisoners' rights, advocated for at least five of Trump's 24 presidential pardons, including three that were announced this week

A Jewish non-profit organisation focusing on prisoners' rights played a significant role in President Donald Trump's pardons and commutations, including those announced this week, according to a report by the New York Times.

The Aleph Institute, a non-profit affiliated with the Chabad Lubavitch Hasidic movement, pushed for at least five of Trump's 24 presidential pardons, including three announced on Tuesday.

In a statement released by the White House on Wednesday, Aleph was explicitly mentioned when announcing the commutation given to Daniela Gozes-Wagner, a single mother who was sentenced to 20 years in 2017 for health-care fraud.

The New York Times reported that Aleph also pushed for clemency for Philip Esformes, once dubbed "the king of Medicaid fraud," who was charged in a $1.4bn fraud case.

According to the newspaper, after his indictment in 2016, Esformes' family donated $65,000 to the institute over a period of a few years.

The Times reported that the institute "played a significant role" in Esformes' clemency appeal, citing Alan Dershowitz, a lawyer with close ties to Trump's White House and a volunteer for Aleph.

Dershowitz told the Times that "the [White House] counsel's office relies heavily on the credibility of Aleph, and they prove credible repeatedly".

"They are a major, major force of pushing commutations," Dershowitz said.

The Aleph Institute also hired Brett Tolman, a former US attorney who helped senior White House adviser Jared Kushner on the Trump administration's criminal justice reform moves.

Tolman was specifically cited by the White House in the pardon of Charles Kushner, Jared’s father, a real estate developer who had pled guilty to tax evasion and making illegal campaign donations.

Dershowitz also worked with Gary Apfel, a lawyer who works on a volunteer basis with the Aleph Institute, on the Esformes' clemency campaign. The two lawyers were also registered lobbyists for Israeli billionaire Dan Gertler, who was sanctioned in 2017 over corrupt mining deals in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Rabbi Sholom D Lipskar, Aleph's founder, said the organisation had worked with more than 35,000 inmates.

"Almost all of the people Aleph works with are destitute, and the same is true for almost all the clemency cases," he said in a statement to the New York Times.

Trump has been brandishing his pardon powers widely, causing outrage after issuing pardons to Blackwater guards convicted of killing Iraqi civilians.

US to label all of West Bank Area C goods 'made in Israel'

"Goods produced in some areas of the West Bank shall be marked as products of  “West Bank” and goods produced in Gaza shal be marked  as products of  "Gaza."

The Trump administration granted de facto recognition of West Bank Area C sovereignty when it issued labeling requirement that all goods produced in that region, either of Israeli or Palestinian origin, should be labeled "Made in Israel."

On Wednesday, the US Customs and Border Protection Agency published a notice to this effect to ensure that "country of origin markings for Israeli and Palestinian goods are consistent with the United States’ foreign policy approach."

US Customs stated that "producers within certain areas designated in the Oslo Accords and the Hebron Protocol must mark their goods as ‘Israel,’ ‘Product of Israel’ or ‘Made in Israel’ when exporting those goods to the United States."

The 1993 and 1995 Oslo Accords which it referenced divided the West Bank into three sections: areas A, B and C. It placed Areas A and B under the auspices of the Palestinian Authority, while Area C was placed under Israeli military rule, including oversight of Israeli and Palestinian civilian life.

The wording of the customs notice would indicate that on issues of trade, Washington recognizes that Area C, which makes up 60% of the West Bank, can be considered Israeli territory for customs purposes, even though it is outside the sovereign boundaries of the state. The notice further indicated that areas A and B would be designated as the West Bank. Gaza would be marked as Gaza, according to customs.

"Goods produced in areas of the West Bank where the Palestinian Authority maintains relevant authorities shall be marked as products of  “West Bank” – and goods produced in Gaza shall be marked as products of  “Gaza," the agency stated, adding that the policy should go into effect within 90 days.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo first announced that the US had shifted its policy with regard to the labeling of goods produced in the West Bank, which had not allowed for Israeli settlement products to be marked as being "Made in Israel."

While on a visit to the Jewish state, he said that goods produced in West Bank settlements would be labeled that way.

On Wednesday, US customs issued an order that transformed his declaration into policy. It did so on December 23, the anniversary of the passage of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, which mandated that all UN member states must distinguish in their dealings between sovereign and non-sovereign Israeli territory.

The Obama administration abstained from that vote. The US is one of five members of the 15-member UN Security Council that have veto power over any resolution. The Obama administration, which until that moment had not allowed the council to pass any anti-Israel resolutions, chose to abstain rather than veto the text, by way of attempting to make its mark on the parameters for a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Since taking power just weeks later, the Trump administration has done its best to lessen the impact of that resolution, which promotes a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 lines, with east Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
