Anon… Many prayers. I can say that I relate. From experience, the first thing the doctors wanted to try with me were SSRI's.. I was stupid enough to go along with it. 30 days later I was laid out with the DT's and massive withdrawals. You are wise not to try them.
I learned soon after that, seeking out a support group that specialized in grief was the ticket, for me. Talking to others going thru situations similar to mine was my way of finally acknowledging my grief over situations I had no control over.
