No. There’s no reason to have controlled opposition like Trump. A Bush or Kerry type has sufficed for decades.
The evidence is the fervor with which the establishment opposed him. They never opposed a Bush / Kerry like they opposed Trump. That suggests he was a real, albeit temporary, threat.
I think Trump was legit. But I tend to think he failed.
