Partisan Wikipedia Editors Work Overtime to Protect CNN
T.D. Adler29 Dec 2020
When CNN became embroiled in controversy in 2017 after it threatened to identify the creator of a satirical image tweeted by President Donald Trump, left-wing Wikipedia editors had the Wikipedia article on the incident removed and its contents buried at the bottom of a page on CNN controversies. Editors proceeded to remove nearly a third of the CNN controversies article and have continued censoring the article up to the current year, including the controversy over its coverage of the 2020 election.
CNNâs own page is nearly devoid of any mention of past controversies, in stark contrast to Wikipedia pages on conservative media such as Fox News and Breitbart News, where controversies are mentioned at the very top of their main pages. Both outlets, among others, have also been the target of an ongoing purge of conservative media from the site, while CNN has been protected.
Roughly an hour after a Wikipedia page on CNNâs blackmail controversy was created, Travis Mason-Bushmann who edits as âNorthBySouthBaranofâ on Wikipedia, started a discussion on redirecting the article to a âCNN controversiesâ page, where it would be one item among many. He cited a policy stating ânot all verifiable events are suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia.â The editor had previously been banned from editing the page on GamerGate, the anti-corruption movement in gaming, due to his aggressive agenda-driven editing. The editor quickly attracted support from mainly left-wing Wikipedia editors, including five (âMrXâ, âVolunteer Marekâ, âObjective3000â, âSagecandorâ, and âValarianBâ) whose positions on deleting an article critical of the President evidenced a double standard as both articles were subject to similar policy complaints.
This âCNN controversiesâ page underwent a sweeping series of changes, the editors proceeded to remove nearly a third of the entire page. The extensive removals were first noticed on the Reddit community WikiInAction, which monitored abuses of power on the encyclopedia prior to a leftist takeover. While some of the deletions appear consistent with Wikipediaâs standards, many were not.
Removals by MrX included a paragraph about a CNN hostâs comments appearing to praise a gunman who attacked Dallas police for which she later apologized. A section on Kathy Griffinâs fake Trump beheading photos, which led to her termination as co-host of CNNâs New Yearâs Eve broadcast, was also edited by MrX to remove mention of the President noting the images upset his 11-year-old son Barron. Criticism Griffin received from Chelsea Clinton and CNNâs own Jake Tapper was also removed.
Volunteer Marek removed an incident where a CNN producer joked about Trumpâs plane crashing and a section about CNNâs Jack Cafferty making inflammatory remarks regarding China that led to protests outside their offices. As the Cafferty material cited Reuters, this removal was apparently due to it citing the International Business Times, whose reliability was inconclusively challenged six years earlier partly over a perceived conservative slant to the outlet. More recent discussions have generally favored its use as a source.
One of the more egregious removals concerned a controversy involving then-CNN correspondent Candy Crowleyâs questionable challenge of a claim by Mitt Romney about Obamaâs response to the Benghazi attacks during the 2012 presidential debates. Marek removed it due to one of the sources being the Daily Caller, which many editors argue is unreliable, but the section twice cites ABC News. Given the pace of these extensive deletions it is unlikely either editor checked for additional sourcing beyond that cited in the articleâŚ.

Shootings in Democrat-Controlled Portland up over 116 Percent
AWR Hawkins29 Dec 2020
Shootings in Democrat-controlled Portland, Oregon, are up over 116 percent as compared to shootings in the city during 2019.
Fox News reports âat least 850 shootingsâŚas of Christmas Eveâ 2020, compared to 393 shootings for all of 2019.
Moreover, December 2020 alone has witnessed 59 shootings, a significant increase over the 33 shootings in December 2019.
On December 26, 2020, KGW8 noted Portland saw âmore than 50 homicidesâ January 1, 2020, to December 24, 2020, marking the highest number of homicides in the city in almost 30 years.
Portland has been a hotbed for anti-police/defund the police demonstrations in 2020.
Oregon Public Broadcasting observed that flashpoint for contention was Portlandâs Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT), which was disbanded in early July amid claims that it âdisproportionately targeted people of color.â
The push to disband the GVRT was spearheaded by commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty, who unsuccessfully pushed for $18 million in police budget cuts later in the year.
Nevertheless, on November 12, 2020, Breitbart News reported Hardesty called the police because she was allegedly upset a Lyft driver would not roll the windows up during her ride.

Sharpton: GOP Base Fell for âCharismatic Con Manâ Trump
Sounds like heâs talking about himself, the irony is funny
Monday, Al Sharpton on MSNBCâs âDeadlineâ called President Donald Trump was a âcharismatic con man,â adding that he had âfired upâ supporters that could make it difficult for President-elect Joe Biden to work across the aisle.
When asked about Biden working with Republican lawmakers, Sharpton said, âPresident-elect Biden is dealing with a different kind of zeal in this Republican Party now that has been put in by Donald Trump and fired up their base. Many of them are afraid of their base that will not let them reach back across the aisle because theyâve become captive by a charismatic con man that has now captured the party and arrested them in place.â
He added, âYouâre not dealing with people that are talking about healing. Youâre dealing with people that want to just hold where they are and have nothing even appearing like theyâre dealing with people across the aisle, less alone dealing with the citizenship that is diverse and has interests that have been treated unfairly.â

Perdue: Ossoffâs âChina Scandalâ Makes Swalwell, Hunter Biden Look âSmallâ
What does Purdue know?
Ian Hanchett28 Dec 2020
On Mondayâs broadcast of the Fox News Channelâs âIngraham Angle,â Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) stated that his opponent, Democratic senatorial candidate Jon Ossoff, has a âhuge China scandalâ that âreally makes Eric Swalwell and Hunter Bidenâs situation small in comparison.â
Perdue said, âThe more we learn about Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, the more questions havenât been answered. I mean, for example, Jon Ossoff has this huge China scandal that heâs not come clean on yet. And it really makes Eric Swalwell and Hunter Bidenâs situation small in comparison. This is a man that Iâm running against that took money from the Chinese Communist Party for two years, hid it, lied about it, got caught, then came clean, and lied about it again
