Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Utah GOP Sen. Mitt Romney, and other Republican senators are reportedly working in the shadows against President Donald Trump.
According to The Hill, McConnell and a few others are planning to speak with Alabama Republican Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville in an attempt to avoid a messy floor fight on Jan. 6 over finalizing the results of the Electoral College vote.
Alabama GOP Rep. Mo Brooks is promising to challenge the Electoral College. Tuberville has strongly suggested that he plans to be the lone senator and support the challenge.
If Brooks and Tuberville do challenge the vote, both chambers would hold a two-hour debate and would have to agree on the objection in order to throw out contested electoral votes.
