Your son is lucky to have you. For many of us with "functional autism" like Asperger's, our parents see us as naughty stubborn weird people who are failures, and an embarrassment to the family, and an unfortunate burden. Maybe if we didn't "look normal", and if doctors had diagnosed us properly from childhood, then our parents would think of us less like failures and more like 'disabled' people who achieve a lot just to keep a basic job, and live independently, and stay somewhat sane in this world.
