Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” that his colleague Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) is attempting to overthrow democracy by announcing he will object to the certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral college win in the Senate on January 6.

Mitchell said, “Your Republican colleague Josh Hawley of Missouri announcing today he’s going to object to the Electoral College vote certification on January 6. It’s unlikely to change the result, it’s not going to happen, but it’s going to cause delay, lengthy debate, both Houses in Joint Session. It’s a complicated process that sets off.”

Murphy said, “Let’s be clear, Josh Hawley and anyone who supports his effort are engaged in the attempted overthrow of democracy. There is no evidence that there was any fraud. Senator Hawley apparently believes that if a Democrat wins the presidential race, it must be illegitimate by definition, even absent any actual evidence of misbehavior.”

He continued, “While you’re right that Senator Hawley’s efforts here are not going to change the results of the election, Joe Biden is still going to be president, there won’t be enough votes to overturn the Electoral College, what he is doing and those who support him are doing is breeding in the American public and certainly amongst the hardcore Trump supporters this belief that the election itself was illegitimate and any time a Democrat wins, it must be illegitimate. That is ultimately going to potentially end in the overthrow of democracy. At some point, there will be a successful attempt by Republicans at the state level or national level to throw out a legitimate election just because a Democrat won. We don’t do this in this country, right? We put our country before our party and our personal beliefs. Senator Hawley’s efforts are not going to change the result of the election, but they pose a grave threat to American democracy, maybe not this year, but two years from now, four years from now, absolutely.”

McConnell Dooms $2,000 Stimulus Check After Refusing To Split Trump's Three Demands

In a move that all but doomed Congressional approval for $2,000 stimulus checks (up from $600), top Senate republican Mitch McConnell said he would not separate the plan for $2K checks, from President Donald Trump’s other demands: section 230 repeal and an election fraud commission.

"The Senate is not going to split apart the three issues that President Trump linked together just because Democrats are afraid to address two of them. The Senate is not going to be bullied into rushing out more borrowed money into the hands of Democrats rich friends who don't need the help," McConnell said from the Senate floor.

Over the weekend, the Democratic-controlled House approved a stand-alone bill to boost the checks to $2,000 from $600, as 44 Republicans prodded by Trump joined nearly all Democrats in backing the measure. But the Republican-controlled Senate has said it will not pass the checks without attaching other Trump priorities that Democrats consider toxic, and would sink any legislation.

The latest twist in this bizarre saga of Helicopter Money and government handouts came just as the Treasury Department started to send out the payments of up to $600 on Tuesday night. If Congress can overcome the thorny political dynamics to increase the deposits to $2,000, the government would later add on to the cash it already distributed.

On Tuesday, McConnell introduced the bill that would boost the payments to $2,000 but also repeal Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which provides legal liability protections for internet platforms, and create a commission on voter fraud, something which Trump has pushed for as he continues to challenge the outcome of the November election.

McConnell's gambit came shortly after he blocked Democrats’ efforts to quickly pass the $2,000 checks as has tried to balance a desire not to immediately add to the price tag of the $900 billion rescue package, while appeasing a GOP president who has fixated on sending more direct payments to struggling Americans, and jeopardizing Republican chances in the Georgia Senate runoff where the topic of $600 vs $2,000 checks has become especially sensitive.

Democrats - who were for the $2,000 check but against repeal of Section 230 and the electrion fraud commission - threw up all over McConnell's bill as expected. Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer, said Tuesday that tying other proposals to the direct cash measure “would be a blatant attempt to deprive Americans of a $2,000 survival check.” On Wednesday, Schumer said that the House-passed bill to increase stimulus checks was the only option at this point. Making other changes/additions “is way to kill the bill. Make no mistake about it."

Nancy Pelosi also urged the Senate to approve the stand-alone bill before the new Congress starts at noon ET on Sunday, but this effort was promptly stymied by McConnell.

"I do hope that in the days ahead - we only have a few days left in the session - that they will see the light and understand the suffering that is going on in this country," the California Democrat said of Republicans.

Similarly, Perdue on Tuesday spoke to Fox News’s Sandra Smith and stated he is “delighted to support the president in this $2,000.”

‘Scotland will be back in EU after independence!’ says SNP leader, as party pledges to vote AGAINST Brexit deal

The leader of the Scottish National Party in the UK Parliament has slammed Boris Johnson’s trade deal with the EU and vowed to vote against it in a complete U-turn on Brexit.

Speaking on Wednesday, Ian Blackford, SNP leader in Westminster, said that Scotland would soon be heading back into the European Union, having seen the PM’s “bad Brexit deal.”

“It’s the people of Scotland that are sovereign, and it’s the people of Scotland that will determine to take them back into the European Union with independence,” he stated during the five-hour debate on the European Union (Future Relationship) Bill in Parliament on Wednesday.

The SNP MP had already been cautioned by the speaker of the house for repeatedly interrupting Boris Johnson during his opening speech.

Once again calling for another referendum on Scottish independence from the UK, the MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber said that Scots had a very clear choice on their future.

“Which future will we choose? This broken Brexit Britain or the European Union? If this whole Brexit saga was truly about sovereignty then the Scottish people can’t and won’t be denied our sovereign right to that self-determination,” he asserted.

The SNP have vowed to vote against Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal, in a move which marks a total U-turn on the party’s Brexit position but is unlikely to stall the bill, as Blackford’s MPs do not have enough power in the UK Parliament to impact its passing.

Earlier in December, SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon said that “a deal, any deal, is better than a no deal.”

Major cryptocurrency XRP crashes as exchanges ditch token over SEC lawsuit

The price of one of the world’s most traded cryptocurrencies, Ripple’s XRP, has continued to plunge after crypto exchange Coinbase became another platform to announce the removal of the coin.

Ripple’s XRP, the fourth-biggest token by market capitalization, was down 13 percent on the day, sitting at just above $0.20 as of Wednesday morning. It has lost over 43 percent of its value over the past week and is down more than 70 percent against its last month’s high of around $0.70.

The latest drop came shortly after US-based platform Coinbase made the decision to suspend XRP trading pairs from its marketplace “in light” of US Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) lawsuit against XRP’s creator, Ripple. Trading will be fully halted on January 19.

Coinbase’s announcement came just days after similar decisions by other cryptocurrency exchanges. Bitstamp said last week it would remove the option for XRP trading and deposits for all US customers on January 8, while OKCoin’s delisting of the cryptocurrency comes into effect on January 4. Such firms as B2C2, OSL, Crosstower, and Beaxy similarly decided to halt XRP trading.

“This is obviously bad for XRP across multiple dimensions: fewer potential buyers, and lower overall liquidity. For XRP to work as Ripple intends, XRP needs to be very liquid, so this is particularly harmful,” Kyle Samani, co-founder of Multicoin Capital, was quoted as saying by Bloomberg.

“The SEC has introduced more uncertainty into the market, actively harming the community they’re supposed to protect. It’s no surprise that some market participants are reacting conservatively as a result,” Ripple said in statement, adding that it will continue to work with the SEC’s new leadership once appointed.

Trump Team Wants to Present ‘Specific Evidence’ on Jan. 6: Campaign Adviser Jason Miller

President Donald Trump’s campaign adviser said the team is aiming to present evidence during a potential congressional debate on Jan. 6 if lawmakers in the House and Senate object to states’ Electoral College votes.

As of Wednesday, it appears that at least one member of the Senate, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), and a number of House lawmakers will object to the electoral votes during the Joint Session of Congress. Hawley announced he would object to the electoral vote, pointing to previous Democratic efforts to do so during the 2004 and 2016 presidential elections. After the objection, an hours-long debate will occur.

Miller said that evidence could be presented in Congress, which would differ from what the Trump campaign presented in courts over the past several weeks.

“We will have a chance in front of the American people, next week to present these cases, all these evidences of fraud,” Miller told Newsmax, pointing to a lawsuit filed by Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) against Vice President Mike Pence earlier this week to prevent him from confirming Joe Biden’s electoral victory. Miller told the outlet that the 1887 Electoral Count Act allows the vice president, who is the president of the Senate, to preside over the Joint Session of Congress.

Then, Miller told Newsmax that he hopes at least one senator and representative join together to object to the Electoral College vote, allowing for two hours of debate.

Should that happen, Miller said President Donald Trump’s team is seeking to present alleged evidence of voter fraud or irregularities in the Nov. 3 election, including law changes regarding mail-in ballots in Wisconsin, “suitcases of ballots” in Georgia being wheeled out late at night on Nov. 3 in Atlanta’s State Farm Center, and being blocked in Arizona and Michigan from inspecting voting systems, alleging that ballots were counted several times.

“These are the specific types of evidence we want to present to the American people on the national stage and not allow local politicians to sweep it under the rug,” Miller said.

Weeks ago, Trump’s team led by Rudy Giuliani presented a surveillance video from the State Farm Center that showed suitcase-like boxes being wheeled from under a table. It came after election officials allegedly told other workers and poll observers that counting was done for the night.

The Georgia GOP said they received conflicting and incorrect answers and statements from Fulton County officials about what happened on Election Night, and officials later acknowledged that vote-counting went on until the early-morning hours. State election officials, in response to the video, said nothing unusual occurred with the ballot boxes and vote-tabulation process in Fulton County.

Elaborating on Wisconsin, he said, “Article II of the Constitution makes it very clear, the state legislatures, and state legislatures alone, set up the voting systems for each state, the codes and the way they are conducted.” He said, “And what we have here is we have over 20,000 ballots that were cast without actually having an application on file, the mail ballots. Wisconsin’s very clear, very specific you got to have an application on file.”

Article IV, §4, U.S. Constitution REQUIRES Congress, the Supreme Court, and the President to Stop the Steal!

1. The Supreme Court’s Dereliction of Duty

The Pennsylvania Lawsuit

As pointed out in the interview [and previously here], Art. I, §4, cl. 1, US Constitution, delegates to state and federal legislatures alone the power to make the laws addressing the “times, places and manner” of conducting federal elections. In addition, Art. II, §1, cl. 2 provides that the State Legislatures are to decide how the Presidential Electors for their State are to be appointed.

But in Pennsylvania (and other States), Judges and State Executive Branch officials changed the laws made by their State Legislature in order to permit fraud of such a massive scale as would enable the theft of the election for the Biden/Harris ticket. Accordingly, during late September, the Republican Party of Pennsylvania filed a lawsuit challenging the unconstitutional changes to the State election laws. They lost in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and asked the US Supreme Court to review it.

But the Supreme Court dragged its feet. So on October 28, Justice Alito (who is the “go-to” Justice for the US Circuit in which Pennsylvania is located), issued a statement [link] where he identified violations of Art. I, §4, cl. 1 and Art. II, §1, cl. 2 as an issue of “national importance” which “calls out for review” by the Supreme Court; and that the Court should decide this issue BEFORE the election. He warned that the Supreme Court’s inaction on the “important constitutional issue” raised in the lawsuit has created conditions that could lead to “serious post-election problems.”

Justices Thomas and Gorsuch joined Justice Alito in his Statement – but nobody else.

The Supreme Court still hasn’t announced whether they will review the decision of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. They set this case for conference (among themselves) on January 8 [link] – which is two days after Congress meets to count the votes.

The Texas Lawsuit

The Supreme Court’s handling of the Texas lawsuit was equally egregious. The Texas case alleged that using COVID-19 as an excuse, state government officials in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin usurped their State Legislature’s authority and unconstitutionally revised their State’s election statutes. These changes made massive election fraud possible. The Complaint sets forth compelling facts alleging the massive and coordinated fraud used to steal the November 3 election.

But the Supreme Court refused to hear the case, claiming that Texas “lacked standing” to bring the action. They were dead wrong. Here’s why:

Article IV, §4, US Constitution, says:

“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government…”

The essence of a “Republic” is that sovereign power is exercised by Representatives elected by The People.[1] Accordingly, the violations of Art. I, §4, cl. 1 and Art. II, §1, cl. 2 – which made the massive election fraud possible – strike at the heart of our Constitutional Republic.

Footage From Deadly Yemen Airport Attack Allegedly Shows Missile Exploding on Tarmac

At least 22 people were killed and over 50 others injured in Wednesday’s attack on Aden Airport. Moammar Al-Eryani, information minister in the new Saudi-backed government, has blamed the attack on the Houthi militia although the group has yet to issue any formal statements.

The first footage showing the attack on Aden Airport has appeared online. In the video, which has yet to be independently verified, a missile hits the tarmac and creates a fireball that nearly consumes a stationary vehicle nearby.

The footage also shows billowing smoke from a nearby terminal building and the apparent sound of gunfire as government and military officials, journalists, and observers duck for cover or get into vehicles in a bid to escape the carnage.

At least 22 people were killed and dozens more injured in the wake of Wednesday’s attack on Aden Airport. A source told Sputnik that none of the members of Yemen's new cabinet were hurt. The ministers are said to have been transferred to the safety of Maasheeq presidential palace.

The new government’s information minister blamed the attack on the Houthis, the militia group which has been in control of much of the country, including the capital of Sanaa, for over six years, and which has been targeted by a Saudi-led coalition since 2015.

The new cabinet arrived in Aden following a formal inauguration ceremony in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, after a power-sharing deal had been reached between the government of Saudi-based exile president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and the Southern Transitional Council (STC), a separatist government in control of much of the country’s south. Receiving support from the United Arab Emirates, the STC was formed in 2017, two years after Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States began their intervention in the Yemen conflict.

The Houthis have not claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s airport attack. However, the group has previously launched dozens of missile and drone attacks against Hadi loyalists, the STC and Saudi Arabia proper, hitting military facilities, airports, ports, and other infrastructure. In September 2019, the group took responsibility for a major attack on a pair of Saudi oil processing facilities which temporarily halved the kingdom’s oil production.

The war in Yemen has devastated the already impoverished nation, with over 233,000 people killed, both during the fighting and as a result of a humanitarian crisis. The United Nations estimates that up to 22 million people, or three quarters of the country’s population, are in dire need of humanitarian assistance, including urgent food aid.

Thousands of sex offenders may be eligible for early release: California Supreme Court

The California Supreme Court ruled on Monday that thousands of sex offenders may be eligible for early release. Under a ballot measure that was overwhelmingly approved by almost two-thirds of Californian voters four years ago, those convicted of non-violent sex offenses may be eligible for early parole.

The initiative, named Proposition 57, was composed by former Governor Jerry Brown. It was intended to reduce the state’s prison population, which is among the highest in the United States. Brown says that the legislation was not initially intended to cover sex offenders, referring only to those found guilty of a “nonviolent felony offense.” However, lower appeals courts ruled that nonviolent sex offenders were covered by the proposition. The high court later affirmed those rulings.

“The initiative’s language provides no indication that the voters intended to allow the (Corrections) Department to create a wholesale exclusion from parole consideration based on an inmate’s sex offense convictions when the inmate was convicted of a nonviolent felony,” wrote Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye in the unanimous 7-0 decision, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The measure “is not ambiguous concerning its scope regarding offenders who were previously convicted of a registerable sex offense or who are currently convicted of a registerable sex offense that the Department has itself defined as nonviolent,” the justices ruled.

As reported by the Associated Press, “the ballot measure allows officials to consider paroling inmates convicted of nonviolent crimes after they have served their basic sentence and before they have completed sometimes lengthy additional terms for enhancements for things like using a gun, having prior criminal convictions, or being involved in a street gang.”

Crimes “like rape, sodomy, and continuous sexual abuse of a child” are considered violent offenses but not “pimping, incest, indecent exposure and possessing child pornography.”

Prosecutors warned voters prior to Prop 57’s passage that the piece of legislation was “so sloppily and poorly drafted” it would “wreak havoc on public safety.”

As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation had “prohibited the board from considering early release for inmates serving time for a conviction that required registration as a sex offender,” and:

On Monday, the state’s high court ruled unanimously that the department’s regulations were unauthorized by Prop. 57. As of 2018, the state rules barred about 4,400 inmates from being considered for early parole.

A spokeswoman for the CDCR told the Chronicle that Monday’s ruling “does not mean that sex offenders will automatically be released to the community,” clarifying that the parole board would “assess their case factors individually, including whether they continue to propose a public safety risk.”

Sacramento attorney Janice Bellucci, who is the executive director of the Alliance for Constitutional Sex Offense Laws, argued the case. Bellucci called the decision “a significant victory” for those imprisoned for sex crimes.

Opponents of Prop 57 made few efforts to fight the measure in 2016, while top contributors poured more than $11.8 million into the winning campaign. Top campaign donors included the California Democratic Party, Mark Zuckerberg’s FWD.US non-profit, billionaire philanthropist Tom Steyer, and George Soros’ Open Society Policy Center.
