You dummies are missing the point about the Becket pronouncement.
St. Thomas Becket died because he stood against the state. He defied the king and nobility in upholding God's law and defending the Church from the State taking away its rights. He was murdered on the altar by knights doing the king's bidding to rid him of "this meddlesome priest!" because he stood against the king's/nobility's aggression in taxing Church officials, murdering priests without trial, and trying to force Church officials to ok the deviant lifestyles many of these nobles lived.
The pronouncement was highlighting that struggle between Church and State, and how we are in times similar to St. Becket's. The State, be it Local, State-level, or Federal, here and globally, is attacking the faithful through a variety of means: shutting down places of worship because of COVID; allowing various actors to physically attack, destroy churches, and murder the faithful; threatening religious groups with high taxes and forcing them to support measures that run against their faith, to name only a few examples.
Trump is signaling that he is on the side of the faithful and will protect religious liberty. Can't believe it is this hard to understand.
