On the album, Portrait (released in 1970), The 5th Dimension performed a musical arrangement of the preamble to the Declaration of Independence. It was embraced by college radio stations at the time, while at the same time, it was banned by Armed Forces Radio. Many pop stations refused to play it as well. I guess a lot of folks think the 4th of July was made into a holiday just as an excuse to eat burgers and hot dogs, drink beer and shoot off fireworks.
