The New Testament repeatedly warns us about the dangers of deception, and yet most Christians seem to act as though they're immune to deception. As if, repeating the magic words "I accept Christ as my savior" in and of itself allows them to see through all of Satan's lies. Meanwhile, oddly, they're taken in by a local car salesmen and are more than willing to admit it. But somehow they still can't imagine that the Master of Lies has outwitted them in any respect, let alone the in grandiose ways. So they become perhaps even more arrogant than the philosopher-skeptic who at least asks himself if he might only be a brain in a jar on a laboratory shelf.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.
