NSW introduces mask mandate from midnight as coronavirus cases rise
After months of pressure, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has finally caved in and made masks compulsory as virus cases soar in the state.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has finally introduced a mandate for wearing masks inside shops, salons, cinemas, churches and on public transport from midnight on Saturday.
After months of resisting the potentially unpopular move, Ms Berejiklian announced that masks would become mandatory in a variety of indoor situations across NSW, including gaming venues.
“We would never dare impose upon our citizens any restrictions unless we thought them absolutely necessary,” she said.
Children under the age of 12 and people with certain medical conditions will be exempt.
The Premier also announced that immediately she was taking a week’s holiday, and thanked the public for their support in following the rules.
