Subcutaneous needles can work. Diabetes type syringes with very fine needles can work, in fact the smaller the syringe the better to be accurate with dosing. Needle only needs to penetrate skin and fat, into the muscle. needle length you want to keep about half to 3/4's of an inch, get too much oomph behind your insertion, you can hit bone.
