Interesting thread this story: https://twitter.com/KanekoaTheGreat/status/1345229465840828417
The news, if confirmed in its details, is sensational. Rome and Italy would also have been involved in the potentially most serious and sensational spy story of recent years, namely in the possible manipulation of the result of the last US presidential elections. This is what the legal team of the Trump campaign is investigating, in an investigation which, after a very noisy stop in Germany (which La Verità spoke about yesterday), had another fundamental moment of investigation in Rome.
It is even obvious to speculate that Donald Trump's detractors will say that this is another installment of the current president's post-election show, and will invoke evidence that Trump's legal team believes it can make public in the coming days.
Let's remember the starting point. Sidney Powell, the lawyer who leads Trump's legal team with Rudy Giuliani, and who already has the defense of General Michael Flynn to her credit, has been pointing her finger for days at a telematic instrument designed with the explicit purpose of shifting votes from a candidate to the other, obviously to the detriment of Trump. This electoral software may have also been used remotely, by other countries, to intervene on the tabulation of ballot papers.
Yesterday we talked about Dominion voting systems, founded in Canada, whose equipment and software are used in over 20 US states. And also yesterday we evoked the sensational mystery relating to the German city of Frankfurt, the scene of a seizure of computer equipment according to a first hypothesis to the detriment of Dominion (which he denies), according to another hypothesis to the detriment of the Spanish electoral software company Scytl ( which denies in turn), and finally according to a third hypothesis against a server farm managed by the CIA and the subject of an alleged sensational raid (complete with a fire fight) by men of the Special Forces of the US army, according to the statements made by lieutenant general Thomas McInerney.
On the other hand, there is the latest investigative trail on which the Trump campaign declares itself at an advanced stage of investigation: a part of the alleged electoral switch, that is, the mechanism for moving votes by manipulating the results, would have been thought (perhaps since last spring) and then also carried out by Italy, through a triangulation between a US official operating at the US embassy in Rome (a hypothesis that, if confirmed, would obviously not remain without consequences), military figures of the highest level, and technical collaboration of an Italian company in the defense sector.
Everything would have happened through what is called a military encryption, therefore military codes and encryption to protect certain operations and make them difficult to decrypt.
Now, of course, it must be pointed out that the burden of proof lies with the Trump campaign and its lawyers.
But it remains much more than the feeling that Italy is anything but a marginal reality in this story. We should remember the missions in Rome, in 2019, of the attorney general William Barr, of the prosecutor John Durham, and of Gina Haspel, CIA director. At that time, particularly in coincidence with the visits of Barr (Minister of Justice, therefore a politician), the asymmetry of status of the Italian interlocutors towards which Conte directed him, specifically the highest ranks of our secret services and not political counterparts of equal rank with respect to the host, jumped to the eye. Someone hypothesized that Conte, at the time, wanted to act - politically speaking - on the quiet, to give Trump the feeling (but perhaps only that) of a very rapid and concrete collaboration. Others argue instead that there has been no concrete Italian cooperation.
