it's shocking to me how well it works. without all the hype and juiced numbers, 2020 would have been a normal year.
even will all the covid deaths. is there excess mortality? no. are people dying who aren't on their way to death already? no. without the narrative of cases = death (implied, but still) we'd realize that most people recover just fine. and only people truly at risk would be concerned about getting it. but get them all in a mask to enact a pantomime of fear, and fear becomes contagious. more contagious than covid.
at the very least, it's a show for the rulers that people aren't just going to say oh ok, you stole that election fair and square
