People have been nice and polite because they believed the system was just inept, not evil. Events have changed that perception, and they are remaining hopeful that President Trump can, somehow, spearhead a lawful reform of the system. That is the answer on the table for them and it is the option which is least destructive.

However, should that fail - people begin to search for other means and answers. The democrats have put many people out of work and closed many businesses. Those are idle and angry hands.

People like myself lack manpower. I can make bombs and munitions from the grocery section of the store and teach these people how to do the same. I don't even need to touch the cleaning aisle.

These are more stable and poweful than the CIA's veloved Triacetone Peroxide explosives.

I need people to help seize operating terrirory, to nullify local law enforcement, to move equipment and acquire it from shut down/abandoned businesses (or just people who are willing to donate their assets because they are pissed). I can teach them to produce rocket fuels, some basic machining (and someone among them likely has that trade). I can teach them electronics and programming - all of this in preparation for seizing military hardware. Self-made stuff is fun - but you use it to breach into caches of the real stuff and you want people able to take on the role of the same maintenance and operating personnel when you do.

All of this is even easier if local military assets are not traitors and people can be deputized under their officers rather than have to be taken over.

But it is possible even if the military is hostile.

While it is true that we have "predator drones" and the like - it is important to keep in mind that using sophisticated IR guided missiles to blow up people setting up mortar strikes is not sustainable on a continent-wide scale. Even if we assume the production lines are rock solid in their protection, the rate of production will not be able to keep up with demand.

Which is why we really should avoid a war if we can solve the problems another way. Manufacturing capacity will be a major target, particularly of munitions - with either faction seeking to secure it for their own purposes or deny it to their opponents. Communications resources will also be a key target.

America is fairly well hardened against attacks from the ourside. Even dedicated teams of sabateurs would have a difficult time doing irreparable harm. But… An internal war is antithetical to pretty much every strategic plan put into practice. We house soldiers off base in unsecure areas. We have few fighting positions around most of our bases and, spare some army bases, little in the way of ground combat capability. A platoon sized element could gang rape the rent-a-cops in most bases who serve as security. Even if the army were to be redeployed domestically to turn military bases into FOBs, they would need to sacrifice most of their actual land area to do it as it's just too expansive and often borders on civilian districts. There are places where you could practically rappell out of an apartment window and be on some bases.

There are even some open bases where civilian towns exist inside of a base which exists on a map but has little in yhr way of hard barriers. Some such based are extremely important for personnel management and house the people who make pay and orders dispersing happen.

And none of this says anything about the civilian government - which would effectively cease to exist when widespread fighting erupted. Even if they survived decapitation strikes, they would pretty much be unable to convene except in hardened military facilities favorable to them.

If America turns into a war zone, the military hostile to the public will be driven to Alaska, Nevada, and Wyoming. Everything else will have to be nice and friendly or get completely overrun. Maybe some places like Fort Lost in The Woods could hold out because they are remote enough and could plausibly use combined security methods to have an effective base of operations - but there are a lot of places that will be completely at the mercy of local populations and/or their respective militants.
