Law firm finds piles of cash for Native American ventures

The Sacramento office of a national law firm has quietly pulled together more than $1 billion for Native American tribal ventures in the past two years.

The Rancheria, owned by the Tachi Yokut Tribe, picked Monteau & Peebles for legal counsel about five years ago because it had more experience with Indian gaming and understood tribal infrastructure better than others, he said.

"What better guy to have on your side than the (former) chair of the National Indian Gaming Commission?" he said. "It was a good fit."
