Just watched "Darkest Hour", latest Churchill movie. I remember POTUS was reported to like it.(No sauce). The story revolves around the first (20?) days of his Prime Ministership to the time of the evacuation of Dunkirk. How he was handed this wreak of a government which had appeased itself into a no-win situation. Basically, everyone saw no other option but to surrender to Hitler. Churchill impotently battles these forces as time runs out for his troops on the beaches, sinking him into a frustrating depression.
The pressure to quit was starkly portrayed and was the bulk of the movie. It wasn't until he dived into the Underground and spoke to the common man in the tubes did he find the inspiration to voice will of the people.
I would never presume to know the mind of POTUS, however it struck me that his mindset of watching his country devolve since JFK was murdered, watching the ideals of the country prostituted to the highest bidder, would foment such a frustration, that instead of depression he channeled into the PLAN that we see being unveiled today.
Bottomline- Never appease, Never Quit, and Fight, Fight, Fight.
Great movie for these times.
