All problems come from Us. We cant hide from the nature within us. The most emphatic people, the leaders within our movement realize the Crux isnt the individual but the forces guiding/leading them. Flesh is Sin. Not the spooky hollywood devil or demons. Jesus calls Peter satan in the NT, and in the OT David is referred to as the same title. Simply put, Adversary. We all have been adversary's to Christ in our Lives at times. It's the scapegoating that allows us to stop from looking inward, and pointing at the outside factors.
