If POTUS initiated what is to come, it would be written off as a coup. If he concedes and information is brought to him he could authorize military to "look into it" and take appropriate action. Maybe it needs to be completely out of his hands at this point.

Military intelligence gets the info of italian interference, confirms the fraud, sees he has won, realized who plotted and puts him in protective custody while they sort it out. Is there enough loyal military? This might be close if I was writing an entertaining story.

But I am guessing at this point like everyone else.
