They will leave his family alone in return for keeping his mouth shut and not pardoning Snowden, Assange, ect. among other things. There is no rush to these negotiations, they can continue after he is out of office.
It’s not about keeping their word on trust. As long as Trump or some of his family or close confidants are alive, he has leverage. He will certainly hold enough material to give them some problems if they don’t leave him alone. They don’t want to martyr him, and even if they did kill or jail him, he still has family and friends that can release info that they don’t want the public to see. They will come to an agreement. Silence on things that really matter in exchange for allowing him and his children to continue to live and do business unmolested.
