Think outside "military."
Part of the purpose of specops is to blend in. To wash the 'military' out of your character and demeanor so you can fit in with the intended crowd. For some types, a tacticool approach works.
But consider the guy with his feet up on Pelosi's desk. Or, perhaps more importantly, the guy who just so happens to wander to just the right spot and find the right thing.
For many things within spec ops, looking military is counterproductive to your mission. The people you are working with have no idea you are military, they think you are one of them - or at least have no reason to suspect you have ulterior motives for being a part of them, leading them, funding them, etc.
