In 2021, NRO will celebrate 60 years of serving as the nation’s eyes and ears in space. NRO was created on September 6, 1961 with the purpose of overseeing “all satellite and overflight reconnaissance projects whether overt or covert”, and was declassified to the public in 1992.
We are proud of our six-decade legacy of going above and beyond to provide unrivaled reconnaissance support to the IC and DoD, and we will take this year to reflect on our 60 years of technical innovation and the people who made it possible.
