Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey was on vacation on an island in French Polynesia while he and executives were debating on how it would handle President Trump's account
About 350 Twitter employees wrote a letter to management urging them to permanently ban Trump and called for an investigation into the corporate actions leading up to Wednesday's riots
Sources told the NYT Dorsey and fellow execs said they wanted to be consistent with Twitter's policies

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn and attorney Sidney Powell - two Trump loyalists - were also permanently banned by Twitter earlier on FridayTwitter CEO Jack Dorsey reportedly made the extraordinary call to permanently suspend President Trump's account amid mounting pressure from his employees while he was vacationing in French Polynesia.
Dorsey on Friday was forced to tune into virtual meetings with staff from his remote island getaway as the company grappled with how they would handle Trump's Twitter account, the New York Times reported.
Twitter later announced it was deactivating the president's profile for good, citing risks of 'further incitement to violence' following Wednesday's violent siege of the US Capitol by a mob of Trump fans.
The company's final nail on Trump's Twitter coffin on Friday did not sit well with the president who initially tried to get around the ban by using the @POTUS handle before his tweets were swiftly deleted.
One anonymous senior administration official told Politico Trump had gone 'ballistic' upon learning he had been permanently locked out of his account - his preferred means of communication and soapbox - and was 'scrambling to figure out what his options are.'
The White House also said in a statement that Trump was 'negotiating with various other sites' and they were looking 'at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future.'

China said soldier went missing in 'darkness and complicated terrain' on Friday Indian forces have detained a Chinese soldier on a disputed Himalayan border where the two nations fought a deadly battle last year, the military said today.
The arrest marks the second detention on the high altitude border since their deadliest confrontation in decades broke out in June, in which at least 20 Indian soldiers were killed.
The face-off began in early May with a fierce brawl before exploding into hand-to-hand combat with clubs, stones and fists on June 15 which is also understood to have caused a number of Chinese casualties. Both India and China have since heavily militarised each side of the Ladakh region.
It was said today that a People's Liberation Army soldier was 'apprehended' on the Indian side of the area, known as the Line of Actual Control.
The Indian army said in a statement the man was detained in the early hours of Friday and taken into custody.
'The PLA soldier is being dealt with as per laid down procedures, and circumstances under which he had crossed the LAC are being investigated,' a statement said.
The People's Liberation Army Daily, which is run by China's military, said the soldier went missing in 'the darkness and complicated terrain' and insisted India was informed.
'India should strictly abide by the relevant agreements between the two countries, and promptly transfer the missing person to China, to help with cooling and de-escalating the China-Indian border situation,' the military newspaper added.Another Chinese soldier was briefly held by Indian forces in the same region in October.
Tensions flared between China and India last June when a clash along the disputed Himalayan border led to the death of at least 20 Indian soldiers.
In the following months, the nuclear-armed neighbours deployed tens of thousands of soldiers across India's Ladakh region and China's Tibetan plateau.

In a single swipe, Twitter and Facebook have done what the U.S. government and the Constitution could not: delete the power of an irreverent president to rile and rally Americans to violent action.
Twitter announced Friday night that it has permanently suspended Trump’s account, while Facebook announced Thursday it has suspended Trump’s account indefinitely.
Let’s be clear. The decision by the two social media giants to muzzle Trump for incitement following his call to protesters against his election defeat to march on the U.S. Capitol — leading to a riot that left five people dead — has nothing to do with the First Amendment to the Constitution.
The amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
This precious right enshrined in the Constitution restricts actions of the government — not private companies or individuals.
Twitter said in a blog post that it decided that Trump’s words were inflammatory and suspended his account "due to the risk of further incitement of violence."
The world will never forget the desecration of democracy that occurred at the Capitol on Wednesday, fomented by the words of President Trump.
"We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great," Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement. "Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete."
In essence, the decision by Twitter and Facebook was tantamount to a private embrace of the responsibility to ensure public safety.
In this instance, they got it right.
