In the Navy, E-7 is Chief Petty Officer.

From there, you can pursue E-8 - which is Senior Chief, or you can put in a warrant officer package which, if accepted, puts you in the Warrant Officer pipeline of CWO-1,2, etc. They are commissioned officers and unicorns.

E-9 is Master Chief and comes after Senior Chief.

The only higher enlisted rank is MCPON, which is directly under the CNO. As far as I understand, once rotated out of that position, the individual goes back to being the Master Chief they were, before, at the same paygrade.

The other option would be to go STA21 and take a commissioned officer position. They've probably renamed that program by now, but same idea.
