I’ve had the distinct impression Pence was told to do what he did, in exchange for his and his family’s freedom. Right now he’s in protective custody and will disappear soon. He’ll do a public announcement admitting to Christians he betrayed POTUS and must leave now.
Christians will be shocked but will not leave POTUS. Pence’s punishment is humiliation and more if he changes his mind.
