Turkey launches probe after WhatsApp’s updated terms see users’ data shared with parent company Facebook

The Turkish government has launched an investigation into Facebook and WhatsApp after changes to the messaging app’s terms and conditions force users to share personal data with its corporate parent Facebook.

Unless WhatsApp users agree to the new terms and conditions, they will be shut out of the app on February 8. On Monday, Turkey’s Competition Board said it had launched an investigation into WhatsApp and Facebook, ruling that the sharing of data should be suspended until its probe is finished.

“As part of the Facebook family of companies, WhatsApp receives information from, and shares information with, this family of companies,” the new WhatsApp policy reads. “We may use the information we receive from them, and they may use the information we share with them, to help operate, provide, improve, understand, customize, support, and market our Services and their offerings.”

Washington Monument Closed Thru Jan 24 Due To "Credible Threats" To Disrupt Biden Inauguration

As no less than 6,000 National Guard troops arrive in the Washington Metropolitan Area within the next 24 hours to beef up security around the US Capitol complex, moments ago the National Parks Service said that it was "temporarily" closing the Washington Monument and other public spaces in DC due to "credible threats to visitors and park resources" as "groups involved in the Jan. 6, 2021 riots at the US Capitol continue to threaten to disrupt the 59th presidential inauguration on Jan. 20."

The shutdown will begin on Jan 11 and will remain in effect through Jan 24, "but may be extended if conditions persist." The Park service explained that the "temporary closures are not of a nature, magnitude or duration that will result in a 'significant alteration in the public use pattern'."

It was unclear how the Park Service had determined that the those involved in the Jan 6 riots remains "credible threats."

NY State Bar Association moves to expel Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani

The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) has launched an investigation into disbarring President Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, after he addressed a crowd of Trump supporters who went on to storm the Capitol.

Having received “hundreds of complaints” about Giuliani’s “baseless efforts” to prove the 2020 election fraudulent, and in light of a speech he gave before pro-Trump rioters barged into the US Capitol last week, the New York State Bar Association has launched an “historic” inquiry into revoking the former New York City mayor’s law license, the association said in a statement on Monday.

Giuliani has stood by Trump’s claims that Joe Biden’s electoral victory was fraudulent, though his efforts to prove this fraud legally were denied by multiple courts. However, the latest batch of complaints to the NYSBA came after Giuliani addressed thousands of Trump supporters at a ‘Stop the Steal’ rally outside the White House last Wednesday.

“Over the next 10 days,” he promised the crowd, “we get to see the machines that are crooked, the ballots that are fraudulent. If we’re wrong, we will be made fools of. But if we’re right, a lot of them will go to jail. Let’s have trial by combat,” he said.

After speeches by Giuliani and Trump himself, a crowd of protesters descended on the Capitol and forced their way in, as lawmakers inside certified Biden’s win. The crowd vandalized the building, and five people died as a result of the fracas. Among them were an unarmed protester shot dead by police, and a police officer who died on Thursday, allegedly after being struck by a rioter armed with a fire extinguisher. Three other people suffered fatal “medical emergencies.”

Among those calling for Giuliani’s disbarment were Representatives Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) and Mondaire Jones (D-Nyack), who alleged that Giuliani’s use of the phrase “trial by combat” amounted to incitement and seditious conspiracy.

We will hold responsible everyone involved with the attempted coup, including the attorney to @POTUS, Rudy Giuliani. Letter from Rep @MondaireJones and me to New York State Bar requesting they investigate @RudyGiulianli to disbar him. https://t.co/JgXuQs8j3qpic.twitter.com/ZnJBVhBDYE

— Ted Lieu (@tedlieu) January 9, 2021

Giuliani’s potential disbarment could spell trouble for President Trump, if Congress votes on his impeachment. Rumors have it that Trump will enlist Giuliani to defend him in any impeachment trial, but, with a week left in office, the likelihood of that trial taking place before Biden’s inauguration is slim. Even if the House of Representatives votes on impeachment this week, the Senate doesn’t reconvene until January 19 – one day before the inauguration.

Hacker reveals massive Parler data leak: ALL users’ messages, location info and even driver’s licenses may have been exposed

Recently shutdown social media app Parler is at the center of a yet another controversy, after allegations surfaced that the totality of its users' personal data was leaked in the wake of the network going offline.

Parler, a social network popular with conservative audiences, was removed from the internet on Monday, after Amazon kicked the site off its hosting service, citing"a steady increase in this violent content" in the wake of Wednesday's riot at the US Capitol. The decision to pull support came after Apple and Google blocked the social network from their online marketplaces over the weekend.

Shortly before Amazon's move, a self-described hacker from Austria, going by 'Donk Enby' on Twitter, claimed to have gained access to all of the "unprocessed, raw" video files uploaded to Parler "with all associated metadata." The hacker even included a link to the file library in order to prove that the data leak was real.

These are the original, unprocessed, raw files as uploaded to Parler with all associated metadata.

— crash override (@donk_enby) January 10, 2021

The development agitated the social network's audience, especially since it occurred around the same time as Parler's shutdown.

News of the apparent leak quickly spread online, leaving some to wonder how the hacker could have snagged the entirety of one of the network's file libraries.

A Reddit user named 'BlueMountainDace' claimed to have the answer, and they posted it in the group 'ParlerWatch,' which appears to have been created to monitor some of the perceived extreme views of the platform's users.

According to 'BlueMountainDace', it was not just the videos, but the entirety of Parler's users' data that was exposed.

In their viral post, the Redditor asserted that one of Parler's hosting platforms, Twilio, accidentally exposed the app's security authentications via a press release. This in turn could have allowed any person to create a blank administrator account and access all of Parler's private content, which, besides message history and geo data, might have included users' driver's license photos, which were used to create a verified account.

FBI raids home of Cleveland school employee suspected of rioting at Capitol

The FBI raided the home of a former Cleveland school employee accused of participating in the deadly riots at the US Capitol building.

Federal agents visited the home of 49-year-old Christine Priola, who resigned last week as an occupational therapist at Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Spectrum News reported.

Several file boxes and a large plastic bag of unknown materials were taken Friday night from the Lake County home, though no arrests were made, news station WKYC reported.

Priola had been accused of storming the US Capitol building Wednesday after photos surfaced on social media, but neither she nor the district have confirmed her participation.

In her resignation letter Thursday, Priola said she didn’t want to get the COVID-19 vaccine or pay union dues that “help fund people and groups that support the killing of unborn children.”

“I will be switching paths to expose the Global evil of human trafficking and pedophilia,” she wrote in the letter obtained by news station WTRF.

The school district has not commented on her resignation, but issued a statement about an unnamed former employee suspected of joining the riots.

House Democrats introduce article of impeachment against Donald Trump

WASHINGTON — Articles of impeachment charging President Trump with “incitement of insurrection” were introduced by House Democrats on Monday after last week’s violent US Capitol siege — describing him as “a threat to national security” and seeking to bar him from running for president in the future.

The single impeachment article accuses Trump of making repeated false claims about widespread fraud in the US election, inciting his supporters to interrupt a vote on Biden’s Electoral College victory in Congress last week, and pressuring Georgia’s secretary of state to overturn Biden’s win in the Peach State.

“In all this, President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of Government,” the document reads.

“He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of government. He therefore betrayed his trust as President, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.”

“Donald John Trump, by such conduct, has demonstrated that he will remain a threat to national security, democracy, and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office, and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self-governance and the rule of law.”

“Donald John Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States,” the document continues with a clause that would block Trump from running in 2024.

House Democrats gathered Monday to officially push Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Trump after last week’s violent US Capitol siege.

But that motion was immediately blocked by Republicans, and Democrats moved to bring impeachment proceedings to the floor in a bid to make Trump the only commander in chief to be impeached twice.

The 25th amendment resolution from Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin accused Trump of being unable to perform “the most basic and fundamental powers and duties of his office” and called on Pence to “immediately” use his powers as vice president to convene the cabinet and replace Trump as acting president.

“[T]hese insurrectionary protests were widely advertised and broadly encouraged by President Donald J. Trump, who repeatedly urged his millions of followers on Twitter and other social media outlets to come to Washington on Jan. 6 to ‘‘Stop the Steal’’ of the 2020 Presidential election,” the resolution reads, referring to a rally the president held outside the White House in the hours before the riots.

But House Republicans blocked quick consideration of the bill with GOP Rep. Alex Mooney of West Virginia objecting Monday morning. So per the Democrats’ threat, they will go right to impeachment proceedings on Tuesday.

In a letter to her colleagues on Sunday evening, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on them to “act with urgency,” describing Trump as “an imminent threat” to the Constitution and US democracy.

“As the days go by, the horror of the ongoing assault on our democracy perpetrated by this President is intensified and so is the immediate need for action,” she said.

William Burns, ex-envoy to Russia who accused Putin of using judo-like tactics to ‘sow chaos’ in US, named as Biden’s CIA director

President-elect Joe Biden has nominated career diplomat William Burns to serve as director of the Central Intelligence Agency, claiming that Americans will “sleep soundly” with Burns at the helm of the shadowy intel service.

Burns, who is currently president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, an international affairs think tank based in Washington, DC, retired from the US Foreign Service in 2014 after a 33-year career in diplomacy. He served as deputy secretary of state in the Obama administration from 2011-2014, and as ambassador to Russia from 2005 to 2008. Before his assignment in Moscow, Burns was US envoy to Jordan from 1998 to 2001, and was appointed assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs from 2001 to 2005.

In a press release, Biden described Burns as a “exemplary diplomat with decades of experience on the world stage keeping our people and our country safe and secure.” The statement said that Burns understood the alleged threats facing the United States, whether they be “attacks emanating from Moscow, the challenge China poses,” or plots being hatched by terrorists and other non-state actors.

American exceptionalism hurt by violent Capitol debacle, expect Biden to push aggressive foreign policy in bid to repair damage American exceptionalism hurt by violent Capitol debacle, expect Biden to push aggressive foreign policy in bid to repair damage

Like many other State Department veterans, Burns has repeatedly accused Moscow of interfering in the 2016 presidential elections.

In a 2017 op-ed published by the New York Times, the retired diplomat accused Russia of “aggressive” and “deeply troubling” election meddling. Burns predicted that Washington’s relationship with Moscow will remain competitive and “often adversarial” for the foreseeable future, claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin is seeking greater influence in the world “at the expense of an American-led order.” He alleged that Russia is dreaming of a dominant position in global affairs unconstrained by “Western values and institutions.”

He called on the US to focus on the conflict in Ukraine, predicting that the country’s fate will determine the “future of Europe, and Russia, over the next generation.”

Tellingly, he also dismissed the “superficially appealing notions” like cooperation against Islamic terrorism. He claimed that Russia’s efforts to help the Syrian government defeat Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) has made the terrorist threat “far worse.”

His animosity towards Russia was again revealed in an interview with the Atlantic magazine in 2019. He told the outlet that Putin had been able to “sow chaos” in the United States by “acting like [a] good judo expert, which he is.” According to Burns, the Russian leader took advantage of a “stronger opponent” by leveraging the “polarization and dysfunction” in the US political system.

Burns even suggested that the now-debunked claims of “collusion” between Moscow and the Trump campaign in 2016 had merit, hinting that Special Counsel Robert Mueller could potentially uncover a larger conspiracy behind Putin’s alleged judo-like interference.

Mueller’s probe ultimately found no evidence of collusion, despite years of salacious media reports alleging overwhelming proof of a vast conspiracy between Trump and the Kremlin.

The diplomat appears to have a more reconciliatory approach towards China. Although he has identified Beijing as a long-term competitor with Washington, he has argued that China was more focused on “adapting” to the US-led world order, rather than “undermining it,” which he accused Russia of doing. However, he expressed support for at least some aspects of the Trump administration’s trade war with China, describing the hardline economic policy as “overdue.”

Cops, Kids, Reporters & Activists Were Murdered As Democrats Incited 2020 Riots… Now They’ve Accused Trump of Their Tactics.

The same media and Hollywood collective that derided American police in 2020 is now flooding the airwaves with their crocodile tears about the police who were on the front lines against trouble-making demonstrators at the nation’s Capitol on Wednesday.

News networks sickly dedicated just a few seconds to the death of black police officer David Dorn, murdered at the hands of Black Lives Matter looters in June 2020.

Back then Joe Biden was silent about the killings, too, despite attacking President Trump and his supporters for Wednesday’s violence at the Capitol.

There’s certainly enough blame in America to go around. But to be proportionate, let’s analyze some things very clearly.

On Whose Hands?

Even one dead is too many, especially during what are supposed to be peaceful protests. Everyone responsible for murder should be held to account. But that’s not what happened in 2020, while Democratic Party politicians encouraged their supporters to continue their violent protests while the media called them “mostly peaceful.”

It’s actually scarily easy to find video evidence of Democrats refusing to condemn domestic terrorism such as the armed, Tacoma immigration facility attacker who also clearly incited to violence by open borders advocates and politicians.

Lockdown crusader Piers Morgan admits he flew to Antigua for the holidays after telling Britons to cope with ‘virtual’ Christmas

‘Good Morning Britain’ host Piers Morgan has been accused of Tier 4 hypocrisy after confessing that he spent Christmas in the Caribbean, despite lecturing people about the evils of non-essential travel during the Covid-19 crisis.

‘I was a Covidiot’: Piers Morgan apologises after failing to don mask while in public ‘I was a Covidiot’: Piers Morgan apologises after failing to don mask while in public

Morgan, who has used his television platform to champion the government’s lockdown measures, and issue scathing rebukes to the ‘Covidiots’ who violate them, confirmed on Sunday a report that he had traveled to Antigua for the Christmas holiday.

Political gossip site Guido Fawkes revealed last week that, according to an unnamed source, Morgan flew first class to Antigua shortly after urging cabinet ministers on his show to introduce tougher lockdown measures ahead of Christmas. He left the UK just before the government announced tough Tier 4 restrictions, according to the scoop, and enjoyed Christmas at an exclusive resort located on a private island accessible only by boat from Antigua.

As the political site noted, Morgan maintained an uncharacteristic silence on social media over Christmas.

After avoiding the explosive story for a week, Morgan claimed the report contained numerous inaccuracies, while acknowledging that he did in fact make the holiday getaway. The television host argued that the trip did not break any of the government’s restrictions at the time of his departure, and claimed that he had never called for Christmas to be “cancelled,” as the report alleged. He also denied that he flew first class.

Hi Guido,Happy New Year.1) The Govt said travel abroad from Tier 3 was allowed if people went straight to the airport. 2) I didn't call for Christmas to be cancelled.3) I haven't flown on Virgin for a year.4) I last flew First Class in February. Otherwise, spot on! https://t.co/FvwFidHX6a

— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) January 10, 2021

Guido took a victory lap after Morgan confirmed its story, and accused the TV celebrity of engaging in “desperate excuse making that he would condemn from an interview guest.” The site claimed that Morgan ignored the government’s guidelines about non-essential travel, even after “a year of ranting about Covidiots and demanding tougher lockdowns.”

The outlet also pointed to a rather sanctimonious statement that he made back in November, in which he declared that Covid-19 “doesn’t give a flying f*ck about Christmas” and suggested that Britons should assent to a “virtual” Christmas in order to “save as many lives as possible.”

Covid-19 doesn’t give a flying f*ck about Christmas. If we have to make compromises this year, so be it. We can still attend virtual church services, & still have virtual meals with all the trimmings. The vaccines are coming fast, let’s save as many lives as possible until then.

— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) November 19, 2020

Arguing that the apparent double-standard was “beyond cynical,” Guido asked: “Why didn’t Piers have a virtual beach holiday at home with a sun lamp, deckchair and a bag of sand?”

He really owes @GMB viewers an apology tomorrow. No excuses about how safe Antigua is or claims that it was legal. It wasn't essential.

— Media Guido (@MediaGuido) January 10, 2021

The gossip site called on Morgan to apologise to his viewers, insisting that there were “no excuses” for his non-essential international travel over the holidays.

Countless social media users joined the pile-on, labelling Morgan as a hypocrite who skirted the rules as he shamed those who questioned the government’s Covid-19 measures.

You told us to suck it up if we couldn’t have the Christmas we wanted with our families. SAGE said do not travel . So who did you fly with in December??

— 🎶🦋Jeany🦋🎶 (@jeanjeany111) January 10, 2021

Finally you admit that you flouted Covid rules. Think you have lost all credibility and the right to lecture, hector and vilify others, as the rules don’t apply to you in your eyes. The hysteria you whipped up on Cummings and you did the same.

Wall Street Banks Freeze Political Donations After Capitol Hill Riots, Threaten Pro-Trump Politicians with Blacklisting

Wall Street is slamming the lid shut on the coffers of its corporate political action committees and threatening pro-Trump politicians on Capitol Hill with blacklisting.

Following a week in which major social media companies cut of President Donald Trump and began excluding some of his biggest advocates in the wake of the Capitol Hill riot, some of the nation’s largest financial institutions have announced that they are halting donations to their political action committees and considering permanently cutting off politicians accused of attempting to “overturn” the 2020 election.

J.P. Morgan Chase, the nation’s biggest bank by assets and market capitalization, said it is halting donations through its PAC for six months. Citigroup, the third-largest U.S. bank by assets, is reportedly pressing pause on political donations for the first quarter of 2020.

Goldman Sachs put the kibosh on donations pending a review of “how people acted during this period,” according to the New York Times, with the likely result that it will exclude Republican politicians who challenged the 2020 election results. Morgan Stanley also said it is stopping political contributions. It is considering withdrawing support for any politicians who voted against certifying Joe Biden’s electoral college win.

Bank of American and Wells Fargo are still considering their response but are likely to follow the path chosen by their competitors.

Typically, bank contributions to political action committees and politicians are considered by the Americana public some of the worst intersections of money and politics. The current situation has given the banks a rare opportunity to pose as do-gooders, even while implicitly pressuring politicians to win back their favor by adopting pro-Wall Street stances.

Corporate America is also freezing donations. So far, Marriott, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Boston Scientific have said they will close their political purse strings.

The reaction to the Capitol Hill riot by supporters of President Trump stands in stark contrast to the response of banks and corporations to the Black Lives Matter anti-police riots and protests of last year. In response to those events, corporations pledged over a billion in support of Black Lives Matter and related causes.

UK Govt Mulls Ban on Britons Leaving the House More than Once Per Week: Report

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is reportedly considering enforcing even more stringent measures during England’s third lockdown, including banning Britons from leaving their homes more than once a week.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Johnson announced the third lockdown with stay-at-home orders, which could legally last until March 31st.

The government is now considering putting Britons under effective house arrest, with sources speaking to the Mail Online saying that unless people strictly follow the rules, Boris may ban people leaving their homes more than once a week.

Currently, Britons may exercise once a day with either a friend, others in their house, or with their support bubble. They may also go out for other ‘essential’ purposes such as food shopping or to receive healthcare.

Separately, sources also told The Telegraph on Monday that the Cabinet was considering harsher lockdown restrictions, including banning households from exercising together and forcing office workers to wear masks.

The Times reports sources saying that the government may also legally make supermarkets — one of the few places left where people can interact indoors — to enforce mask-wearing, social distancing, and one-way systems. Shoppers may also be forced to wear masks while they are lining up outside supermarkets, which could also be ordered to strictly control the number of people going in.

Vaccine Minister Nadim Zahawi admitted that rules could be tightened, telling BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Monday: “We don’t want to use tougher measures, the lockdown is tough, schools are shut, but it is important to remember this virus loves social interactions.”

Adding: “The exemption is in place for two people to walk, to exercise together. We don’t want to go tougher — but we review everything.”

British Police Force to Blow £180,000 on 'Diversity' Officers https://t.co/sbIUy8Znr9

— Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) January 10, 2021

The Cabinet held a COVID meeting on Sunday after allegedly being alarmed at the number of Britons enjoying the fresh air in parks and by the seaside, rather than staying locked up in their houses.

One government source told The Telegraph that the government was considering banning two people from different households meeting up for excise because it was “being used as an excuse for people to go for a coffee in the park with their friends”, with the source stating: “It may be we tighten up on things like that.”

The remarks would appear to be a direct reference to the case last week of two women in Derbyshire who drove separately five miles to a local nature reserve to go for a walk with each other while drinking coffees to keep warm. One woman described that before either she or her friend got out of their cars, they were surrounded by police officers and read their rights. They were effectively told they had strayed too far from home to take exercise and were each fined £200. Police also told them that their hot drinks were not allowed because it “counted as a picnic”.

Thousands of Law School Alumni Sign Unconstitutional Petition to Disbar Cruz, Hawley

At least 5,000 law school students and alumni have signed a petition urging that Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Josh Hawley (R-MO) be disbarred for their attempt to urge the Senate to reject the Electoral College vote making Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

The petition, organized by students and alumni of Yale Law School — considered the country’s most elite institution of legal scholarship — urges that the state bar organizations of Missouri, Texas, and the District of Columbia remove the law licenses of the two Senators in question.

Co-signatories include Harvard Law School professor Laurence Tribe, one of the key legal advisers of the Democrats’ failed impeachment against President Donald Trump in 2019-20.

The petition reads, in part (footnotes omitted):

In leading the efforts to undermine the peaceful transition of power after a free and fair election, Senators Hawley and Cruz attacked the foundations of our democracy. Nearly 160 million Americans exercised their right to vote in the November 2020 election. Dozens of courts rejected unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud, and the Electoral College formally ratified President-elect Biden’s victory on December 14, 2020. Despite these clear expressions of the will of the people—and with full knowledge of the implications of their actions—Senators Hawley and Cruz publicly announced their intentions to object to Congress’s certification of the Electoral College’s votes set for January 6, 2021.

In doing so, Senators Hawley and Cruz directly incited the January 6th insurrection, repeating dangerous and unsubstantiated statements regarding the election and abetting the lawless behavior of President Trump. A violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol. Five people have died. The nation and the world watched as rioters took over the very halls and chambers that embody our democracy. Yet after the violence and terror of the day’s events, Senators Hawley and Cruz still chose to stand in the chamber of the U.S. Senate and persist in their baseless objections to the will of the people.

These actions prove Senators Hawley and Cruz fundamentally unfit for membership in the legal profession. Both have flagrantly violated some of the most elementary ethics rules governing the legal profession. In inciting and encouraging a violent insurrection against the U.S. government, they have potentially committed “a criminal act that reflects adversely on the lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness, or fitness as a lawyer in other respects.” And by fanning the fury of aggrieved constituents through false claims of voter fraud, all for their own political gain, they have engaged in “conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation.”

Notably, the petition fails to cite the legal definition of “incitement,” which excludes “the mere oral or written (1) advocacy of ideas or (2) expression of belief, not involving advocacy of any act or acts of violence or assertion of the rightness of, or the right to commit, any such act or acts.”

The petition also ignores the Speech and Debate Clause of the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 6, Clause 1), which protects parliamentary speech: “…and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.”

‘Capitol Hill is the 9/11 Moment of Social Media’ — EU Commissioner Calls for Govt Control of the Internet

The European Commissioner for the internal market described the storming the U.S. Congress as the “9/11 moment of social media” and has called for the United States to work alongside the EU to implement more restrictions on speech on the internet.

Thierry Breton, a former French Finance Minister, said that by banning U.S. President Donald Trump, following the unrest at the Capitol, tech companies “have recognized their responsibility, duty and means to prevent the spread of illegal viral content”.

The EU Commissioner wrote in POLITICO, that tech companies “can no longer hide their responsibility toward society by arguing that they merely provide hosting services.”

“The unrest in Washington is proof that a powerful yet unregulated digital space — reminiscent of the Wild West — has a profound impact on the very foundations of our modern democracies,” Brenton proclaimed.

“Last week’s insurrection marked the culminating point of years of hate speech, incitement to violence, disinformation and destabilization strategies that were allowed to spread without restraint over well-known social networks,” he added.

The Eurocrat called on the incoming Biden administration in the U.S. to “join forces, as allies of the free world” to craft a “new global approach to online platforms”.

“Just as 9/11 marked a paradigm shift for global security, 20 years later we are witnessing a before-and-after in the role of digital platforms in our democracy,” he said.

Following the terror attacks on September 11th, the United States Congress swiftly approved the Patriot Act, which drastically empowered American security agencies to surveil people, both inside and outside of the country.

The comparison of the unrest at the Capitol building to 9/11 from the EU Commissioner echo sentiments expressed by President-Elect Joe Biden, who said of those who entered the building last week: “They weren’t protesters — don’t dare call them protesters. They were a riotous mob, insurrectionists, domestic terrorists.”

Breton pointed to two proposed EU directives, the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act — both of which he has personally helped craft — as frameworks for policing online content.

“Our European laws and courts will continue to define what is illegal, both offline and online — from child pornography to terrorist content, from hate speech to counterfeiting, from incitement to violence to defamation — through democratic processes and with appropriate checks and balances,” he wrote.

The EU Commissioner said that with the introduction of the DSA, the bloc has made its “opening move”, but went on to argue that the challenges posed by freedom of speech on the internet are “global in nature”.

Migrant Caravan Heading to U.S.A.

Guatemalan officials announced the deployment of 4,000 soldiers to patrol its southern border to stop another group of caravan migrants from making their way north. U.S. Customs and Border Protection warned the migrants about the risks associated with the perilous and often deadly journey that will not lead to successful entry into the United States.

“Control will be strengthened with the borders we share with Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador and on the area of adjacency with Belize,” Guatemalan military spokesman Rubén Téllez told Reuters, according to CubaNet.org. He said his government will deploy up to 4,000 soldiers. The Salvadoran Air Force will also participate in the effort to stop the northward migration.

Guatemalan officials reported they would only allow Hondurans with a valid passport and a negative Coronavirus test to cross their southern border.

Honduran General Tito Livio Moreno said his country will also deploy soldiers to aid in stopping illegal border crossings from that country into Guatemala.

CBP Acting Commissioner Mark Morgan warned migrants not to attempt the dangerous trek.

“This is a deadly journey – the U.S. Border Patrol recovered more than 250 bodies along the U.S.-Mexico Border last fiscal year,” Morgan said in a written statement on Friday. “These smugglers are reckless with human life – they do not care for the safety of migrants or law enforcement.”

To migrants considering the caravan: Do not waste your time and money and do not risk your safety and health. The U.S. stands united with our partners in the region in our commitment to the rule of law & public health.

“Do not waste your time and money, and do not risk your safety and health,” the commissioner warned. “The dangerous journey both puts you in harm’s way and endangers the lives and health of those in the U.S. and regional countries through the potential spread of COVID-19.”

“COVID-19 compounds the risk of their activities, not only to migrants but also to healthcare workers, frontline officers, and agents, and to the communities that migrants pass through on their journey,” he explained.

The commissioner praised the efforts of our “partners in Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, and the rest of the region” for their commitment to the rule of law and public health.

“I am proud to stand in solidarity with friends and partners throughout the region who are committed to uphold the rule of law, manage safe, orderly, and legal migration, and prevent a humanitarian and health crisis,” Morgan wrote. “Our message is clear – if you enter a country illegally or violate public health orders, you will face immediate action, including being returned home immediately, detained, or prosecuted.”

Under Title 42 Coronavirus protection protocols put in place by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 90 percent of migrants apprehended after illegally crossing the border into the United States are expelled to Mexico within two hours of their apprehension.

CBS reporter forces Nancy Pelosi to own 'obstructing' COVID relief after blaming Republicans

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was confronted Sunday over her efforts to block coronavirus relief last year after she recently attempted to blame Republicans for holding up a second economic relief bill for millions of Americans whose sources of income have been cut by lockdowns and other COVID-related restrictions

What happened?

During an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes," Lesley Stahl noted that because Democrats lost so many seats in the House during the last election, Joe Biden's victory was not a signal that Americans want the Democratic agenda — they simply sought a new president.

In response, Pelosi claimed the election was a mandate that Americans want both the Democratic agenda and a new tone in the White House, adding that she tells Democrats they "have a responsibility to find common ground" with Republicans.

That's when Stahl confronted Pelosi.

"You yourself are not known as a person who compromises," Stahl said.

"No, I am. I compromise. We want to get the job done," Pelosi responded. "I'm mischaracterized by the Republicans that way, but that's a tactic that they use, but we know we want results for the American people."

"What about the COVID relief package that was held up for eight months?" Stahl fired back.

"No. But that was their obstruction," Pelosi claimed.

After more back-and-forth, in which Stahl continued to push back against Pelosi's claims that Republicans were "obstructing" COVID relief last year, Pelosi eventually admitted that Democrats indeed blocked COVID relief — but bashed Republicans in the process.

"You held out for eight months," Stahl pointed out.

"No, we held it up," Pelosi admitted, "because there was no respect for our heroes, our state and local health care workers, police and fire, our first responders, our sanitation, transportation, food workers, our teachers, our teachers, our teachers. They would not go down that path."

AMAZING! They magically already have a 20,000 page domestic terrorism bill ready

Joe Biden that he is working on a bill to go after “domestic terrorism” with a redefinition of the term, to go after the “ideologically-inspired.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media are cracking down on any non-approved narratives.

Twitter locked President Donald Trump’s account and then released it after about a day or so. Then Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and others are calling for Trump to be pulled. Now as we just reported, Twitter has banned the president permanently. Twitter is now literally doing the bidding of the Democrats.

Facebook and Instagram already suspended Trump for at least two weeks and possibly permanently. Shopify even pulled MAGA goods from their online stores. Because MAGA hats are apparently evil now.

Democrats and media are also blaming Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and calling on them to resign or be expelled.

This is crazy. It was a riot. With thousands of peaceful people and some who were not. Yet it’s being used to shut down the opposition and to shut down any election questions. Objecting to the electoral count is not illegal, it’s not “sedition” or whatever craziness Democrats want to spread. It’s exactly part of the Constitutional order, which was something Democrats understood when they in fact objected over the last three Republican presidents, as we previously reported here and here.

Now word comes from Joe Biden that he is working on a bill to go after “domestic terrorism” with a redefinition of the term, to go after the “ideologically-inspired.

Dozens of US diplomats condemn Trump for inciting deadly violence at the Capitol and call for administration to support 25th Amendment to remove him from office

In a highly unusual move, American diplomats have drafted two cables condemning President Donald Trump´s incitement of the deadly assault on the Capitol and calling for administration officials to possibly support invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.

Using what is known as the State Department's 'dissent channel,' career foreign and civil service officers said they fear last Wednesday's siege may badly undermine U.S. credibility to promote and defend democratic values abroad.

'Failing to publicly hold the president to account would further damage our democracy and our ability to effectively accomplish our foreign policy goals abroad,' according to the second of the two cables, which were circulated among diplomats late last week and then sent to State Department leadership.

The cable called on Pompeo to support any lawful effort by Vice President Mike Pence and other Cabinet members to protect the country including through 'the possible implementation of the procedures provided for in Article 4 of the 25th Amendment, if appropriate.'

The amendment allows for the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet to declare a president unfit for office, and the vice president then becomes acting president.

The cables were an extraordinary protest against a sitting U.S. president by American diplomats, who have long complained that the Trump administration has ignored and diminished their role and expertise.
