Lawfag here. I think it there would have to be a period for a Military Administration before the Constitutional Republic could be re-established. The proverbial slate needs to be cleaned and sanitized, if you know what I mean.
Germany:

Japan:
Douglas MacArthur was the military governor of Japan from 1945 to 1951.

During the Nuremberg trials, it was decided that the entity who has political control over a country has the jurisdiction to establish a court. This is how they justified having a trial for captured Germans in Germany. None of the people putting on the trial were Germans, so how can they justify having a trial for Germans in Germany? They decided that, as the victors, they have political control over Germany.
