Leave it blank it is monitor only so does not matter. If you have an old computer you can setup your own listening station fairly cheap.
VPN before TOR will protect from ISP and it makes collusion/timing attacks on TOR much moar difficult. It will kill your bandwidth and latency though.
All that does is confirm that the DNS info from your chosen source (if they run the protocol) has not been changed in route. If the Server updates and gets bad info it will distribute the bad info and it will check out.
