Kevin McCarthy Tells House GOP Trump Said He Bears Some Responsibility for Capitol Riot

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said during a call with House Republicans Monday night that President Donald Trump told him he bears some of the responsibility for the Washington, DC riots.

A source with knowledge of the matter confirmed to Breitbart News regarding McCarthy’s conversation with House Republicans.

The subsequent chaos from the Capitol building riots led to calls for Trump’s ouster from both Republicans and Democrats.

Republicans such as Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) have called for Trump to resign from office.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) subsequently called for Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. After Pence would not remove the president, Pelosi and House Democrats have moved to draft Articles of Impeachment against Trump.

McCarthy’s revelation to House Republicans follows the House GOP Leader sending a letter to the Republican conference, saying he’s against impeachment.

“Personally, I continue to believe that an impeachment at this time would have the opposite effect of bringing our country together when we need to get America back on a path towards unity and civility,” McCarthy wrote.

After soliciting input from Republicans, he sought information regarding their thoughts regarding other actions, such:

A resolution to censure the president.

A bipartisan commission to investigate the Capitol building riot.

Reforming the Electoral Count Act of 1887

Legislation to promote voter confidence in future elections.

McCarthy wrote to House Republicans, “I thank the members who have researched and brought forth these concepts. I ask our conference to consider each on their merits and plan to discuss with all of you during our member meeting later today and ahead of votes in the House this week.”

(Update) Two US Capitol Police officers suspended for alleged misconduct during Capitol siege

At least 10 to 15 investigations are ongoing into officers' behavior amid the chaos

Update 7:25 pm. ET: An earlier version of this story reported that a law enforcement officer has been arrested due to their conduct during the Capitol siege. The office of Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) issued a clarification after publishing that there have not, in fact, been any arrests of law enforcement. The following story has been updated.

Two U.S. Capitol Police officers have been suspended over allegations of misconduct during last week's storming of the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump protesters.

What are the details?

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) told reporters Monday that one of the suspended officers had taken selfies with rioters, and the other put on a "Make America Great Again" hat and directed protesters within the building.

Business Insider noted:

Amid the violence, a video circulated on social media showing one officer taking a selfie with an individual entering the Capitol building. Capitol Police have not yet announced his identity.

One of the insurrectionists who entered House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office told the New York Times he also tried to enter Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's office. He said when he couldn't find it, he asked one Capitol Police officer, who directed him.

Ryan said that he was seeking further details behind the arrest of a third member of law enforcement, saying he was not sure if the individual charged was a member of the Capitol Police, the National Guard, or another entity. The lawmaker's office later corrected the record, saying no members of law enforcement had been arrested.

Ryan said at least 10 to 15 investigations are ongoing into the behavior of law enforcement during the attack on the Capitol, but indicated that there is no evidence suggesting an "inside job" from Capitol Police in assisting rioters, but rather "a handful of examples of sympathetic conduct," according to The Hill's Niv Elis.

Anything else?

The attack on the Capitol last Wednesday occurred following a massive rally for President Donald Trump in protest of his election loss to President-elect Joe Biden. After the gathering, a mob of protesters marched to the Capitol and entered the building — some calmly and others through force — as Congress met to count the Electoral College votes and certify Biden's win.

One protester was fatally shot by Capitol Police during the attack, and four others died of purported medical emergencies. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died days later from injuries sustained by protesters during the siege, and another officer, Howard Liebengood, died by suicide following the incident.

CBS News reported Monday morning that "The US Capitol Police has had to respond to 'a couple of incidents' of officers threatening to harm themselves in the wake of the attack on Capitol Hill. This includes a female officer who turned in her own weapon for fear of what might happen."

Houthis Vow To Respond To US Terrorist Designation

Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement (more widely known as the Houthis) has declared that it is ready to respond to any US move to designate it as a terrorist organization.

“America is the source of terrorism,” Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council twitted on January 11. “The Trump administration’s policy and actions are terrorist. We reserve the right to respond to any designation issued by the Trump administration or any administration.”

The statement came in response to the declaration of intention to designate the Houthis a terrorist group by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The outcoming Trump administration also intended to designate three Houthi leaders – Abdul Malik al-Houthi, Abd al-Khaliq Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and Abdullah Yahya al Hakim – as “Specially Designated Global Terrorists.”

The interesting thing is that the United States in fact aims to designate the Houthis for their resistance to the Saudi intervention in Yemen and missile and drone strikes on Saudi Arabia. At the same time, Washington prefers to ignore the fact that all actions of the Houthis are retaliation to the Saudi intervention and the extensive bombing campaign against civilian and infrastructure targets in Yemen.

Meanwhile in Yemen:

The Liaison and Coordination Officers’ Operations Room (loyal to Ansar Allah) reported 204 ceasefire violations in al-Hudaydah during the past 24 hours;

On January 10, Saudi-led coalition warplanes conducted airstrikes on the Zahir area;

On January 10, Saudi-led coalition warplanes conducted airstrikes on the Maheliyah area;

On January 11, clashes between Ansar Allah and Saudi-led forces continued in the Nakhla area east of Madghal;

On January 10, an IED exploded in Al-Arish district. No casualties were reported;

Big Brother’s getting hungry? Former congressman Ron Paul locked out of Facebook for undisclosed reasons

Former US congressman Ron Paul has been mysteriously locked out of his Facebook page and accused of “repeatedly going against our Community Standards.” The platform didn’t explain which content on Paul’s page flipped the switch.

Paul tweeted a screenshot of his official Facebook page on Monday sporting a “You Have Limited Page Functionality” warning screen notifying him that he was “temporarily blocked” from “creating new Pages and managing our existing Pages.”

With no explanation other than "repeatedly going against our community standards," @Facebook has blocked me from managing my page. Never have we received notice of violating community standards in the past and nowhere is the offending post identified. pic.twitter.com/EdMyW9gufa

— Ron Paul (@RonPaul) January 11, 2021

While the warning implied the former Texas congressman had “repeatedly [gone] against our Community Standards,” Paul insisted he had never before been given even a notice of violating community standards, let alone a strike or other official reprimand.

The post that supposedly triggered Facebook’s discipline was not displayed, nor was Paul given any further hints as to what he supposedly did to provoke the wrath of the social media behemoth. Instead, he was only given a link to “review our Community Standards to see what’s a violation.” Facebook’s Community Standards has exploded in size over the past few years as the platform scrambles to root out political wrongthink.
