OpenDNS uses blocklists, I believe. It's one you would use for parental controls, etc.

I would try US level 3 servers from 4.2.2.1 to 4.2.2.6

They're about the same speed as google, cloudfare and quad9

Simple DNS is a free program to set your DNS servers if you run windows. You don't have to take the fastest one if you run a test and google is the fastest, just highlight a US Level 3 server and apply that. You can also type in a DNS server manually.

DNScrypt is a good idea, too. Run it and set 127.0.0.1 as your DNS, but don't set 127.0.0.1 if DNScrypt is not installed or running!

Other thing to check is what your DNS router uses. May want to disable router DNS if you have a good DNS setup in your network. If you know your way around, pihole does a good job in this regard.

Yeah, ya' never know with cloudfare or google.

I try to use US Level 3, depending on latency from where I am, which for the most part is equal or faster than google or cloudfare.

Good way to go, IMO, is set up a pihole and let it handle DNS. Check off US Level 3 in the pihole settings and let it do it's thing.

Point all your network machines to pihole for DNS.

Pihole will do adblocking, too. I have DNSCrypt running on the pihole, too. I run pihole in a barebones Debian VM, not a raspberry.

See my other link. You can run that NordVPN client through a pihole. Custom DNS 1 goes to your pihole, 2ns DNS to US level 3 for backup.

Pihole finds the best US Level 3 server and also does the blocking, not NordVPN cybersec, if you use that. More granular control because you can set your own blocklists in pihole.
