City of Alamo says it received no contact from White House ahead of Trump's Texas visit

The city of Alamo, Texas, is urging calm ahead of President Trump's arrival there on Tuesday, with local officials saying there was little advance notice from the White House and no details provided about the president's visit.

City manager Robert Salinas said in a letter on Monday that officials there had not been contacted about the visit and had no details about his schedule while in town. Trump's trip comes less than a week after a deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters that has prompted calls for the president to resign or be removed from office.

"We are currently receiving many phone calls and emails regarding the President's visit but as you can see we cannot comment any further," Salinas wrote. "Regarding any potential protests or support for the President, we ask that all demonstrations are peaceful and respectful towards our law enforcement personnel and our surrounding communities."

A White House spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. Trump departed for Texas on Tuesday morning.

The White House has said the visit is to mark the completion of 450 miles of wall along the southern border. Trump in 2016 campaigned on building a wall along the border and having Mexico pay for it. Mexico has not paid for the wall, and much of the construction has consisted of replacing existing barriers.

"We're going to Texas. We're going to the Southern Border. As you know we've completed the wall. They may want to expand it," Trump told reporters while departing the White House on Tuesday.

President-elect Joe Biden has aid he will halt additional construction on the wall upon taking office on Jan. 20.
