DOJ: Man Arrested on Federal Criminal Charge for Threatening Violence at Inauguration

An Illinois man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly threatening to commit violence at President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration in Washington, D.C., the Department of Justice announced.

Federal prosecutors said the suspect, 45-year-old Louis Capriotti, left a voicemail with a House member from New Jersey in which he allegedly warned that if people “think that Joe Biden is going to put his hand on the Bible and walk into that [expletive] White House on January 20th, they’re sadly [expletive] mistaken.”

In a Dec. 29 voicemail to a U.S. House member, the man allegedly stated that “we will surround the [expletive] White House and we will kill any [expletive] Democrat that steps on the [expletive] lawn,” the complaint alleges.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, John Lausch, said of the arrest: “Our office takes the security of our public servants very seriously,” adding that, “Individuals who cross the line of free speech by making unlawful threats will be held accountable.”

DC Attorney General Is Looking at Charging Trump and Others for Inciting Violence

Washington DC Attorney General Karl Racine says he is looking at charging the President of the United States for inciting violence after protesters stormed the US Capitol last week.

What the liberal media continues to omit from their reports — President Trump told his supporters to be peaceful and the protest mob was already attacking Capitol Police outside the Capitol Building before President Trump was even done with his speech.

Attorney General Racine: I know that I’m looking at a charge under the DC code of inciting violence. And that would apply where there is a clear recognition that one’s incitement could lead to foreseeable violence. We still have more investigation to do and that’s what we’re going to do.

Prosecutors building sedition, conspiracy charges against some Capitol rioters

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is working to build sedition and conspiracy charges against some of the rioters who stormed the Capitol last week, the top federal prosecutor for Washington, D.C., said Tuesday.

Michael Sherwin, the acting U.S. attorney for D.C., said in a press conference that he has assembled a team of national security attorneys to explore some of the harshest charges his office could pursue in the wake of the riot that overran the Capitol and left five people dead Wednesday.

"Just yesterday, our office organized a strike force of very senior national security prosecutors and public corruption prosecutors," Sherwin told reporters. "Their only marching orders from me are to build seditious and conspiracy charges related to the most heinous acts that occurred in the Capitol."

Sedition charges can carry prison sentences of up to 20 years.

Sherwin said Tuesday that prosecutors have now charged more than 70 cases following the riot and the FBI has opened investigations into more than 170 people.

Most of the demonstrators who have been arrested and charged over the past few days are facing counts ranging from trespassing to weapons charges to assaulting a police officer. But Sherwin stressed that his office is looking to add the most serious charges that it can for certain defendants.

"With this strike force that was established to focus strictly on sedition charges, we're looking at and treating this just like a significant international counterterrorism or counterintelligence operation," he said. "We're looking at everything: money, travel records, looking at disposition, movement and communication records, so no resource related to the FBI, or the U.S. Attorney's Office will be unchecked in terms of trying to determine exactly if there was a command and control, how it operated and how they executed these activities."

Among those who have already been charged is a man who prosecutors say brought multiple guns and bombs to the Capitol last week and was carrying a list of "good guys" and "bad guys."

The FBI is also still investigating who planted pipe bombs that were discovered at the Democratic and Republican party headquarters during the riot.

Ex-Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder to be charged in Flint tainted water scandal

Former Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder and top officials in his administration have been indicted in the Flint water scandal that led to a deadly outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease, according to a report.

Snyder, who was in office when the state’s decision to alter the city’s water supply in 2014 flooded largely minority neighborhoods with lead-tainted water, will be charged by the state attorney general, the Associated Press said.

Sources close to the investigation told the wire service that Snyder’s former health department director, Nick Lyon, will be among those charged “soon” in the scandal.

State prosecutors are mum on the details, but agency spokeswoman Courtney Covington Watkins said investigators are “working diligently” on the case and “will share more as soon as we’re in a position to do so.”

Snyder left office two years ago.

While he was still in the statehouse, state management officials in 2014 switched Flint’s water supply to the Flint River as part of a cost-cutting measure while a new pipeline was being built to Lake Huron.

But the water was not treated, leading to lead-tainted water being pumped into the homes of nearly 100,000 residents in the largely-black city.

Bacteria in the water is also blamed for the Legionnaire’s outbreak that infected at least 90 people and killed 12 in Genesee County.

Snyder and Lyon announced the contamination in January 2016, although Lyon admitted that he knew about some of the cases months earlier.

Reports also suggested that Snyder knew of the tainted water at least three weeks prior to making the announcement.

The controversy prompted a $600 million settlement last year with residents sickened by the tainted water supply.

Lyon and seven other officials were charged with involuntary manslaughter in the case, but charges were later dropped amid confusion over the case.

The case, which gained international headlines and became a test case for municipal mismanagement, remained largely out of the public eye until word of the new indictments surfaced on Tuesday.

Snyder’s attorney did not respond to a request for comment from the Associated Press.

CAMDEN, N.J. – A Burlington County, New Jersey, man was charged Monday with allegedly distributing videos and images of child sexual abuse.

Al-Fahim Medina, 22, of Willingboro, New Jersey, is charged with one count of distribution of child pornography. He appeared in federal court and was released on $50,000 unsecured bond.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:

In January 2020, an undercover law enforcement agent saw an individual advertising, in coded language, the sale of child pornography on Twitter. On June 12, 2020, law enforcement lawfully obtained multiple devices from Medina’s residence that contained over 22,000 files of content constituting child sexual abuse, including images of prepubescent children being sexually abused.

The count of distribution of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, and a fine of $250,000.
