DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE | OFFICE OF THE INSPECTOR GENERAL
INVESTIGATIVE SUMMARY | 21-029 Finding of Misconduct by a Federal Bureau of Prisons Senior Executive for Lack of Candor
The Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) initiated this investigation upon the receipt
of information from the OIG reporting hotline alleging multiple instances of misconduct by a then Warden at a U.S. Penitentiary of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). During the course of the investigation, the OIG found indications that the Senior Executive lacked candor during interviews with the OIG related to the initial misconduct allegations.
The OIG investigation did not substantiate the initial misconduct allegations. The OIG investigation substantiated that the Senior Executive lacked candor during interviews with the OIG, in violation of BOP policy.
The OIG has completed its investigation and provided its report to the BOP for appropriate action.
Unless otherwise noted, the OIG applies the preponderance of the evidence standard in determining whether DOJ personnel have committed misconduct.
