A digital Covid vaccination passport is being jointly developed by a group of health and technology companies who anticipate that governments, airlines and other firms will soon start asking people for proof that they have been inoculated.

A coalition known as the Vaccination Credential Initiative — which includes Microsoft, Salesforce and Oracle, as well as U.S. health care non-profit Mayo Clinic — was announced on Thursday.

The VCI said it wants to develop technology that enables individuals to obtain an encrypted digital copy of their immunization credentials that can be stored in a digital wallet of their choice, such as the Apple Wallet or Google Pay.

President Donald Trump's Facebook page continues to draw new "likes" despite the president having been de-platformed, Newsweek reported.

According to a Thursday report, Trump's Facebook page has brought in nearly 150,000 new likes since Facebook indefinitely suspended the president from using his account on Jan. 7.

Citing analytics information from Social Blade, Newsweek reported that Trump's YouTube channel — which was also ultimately suspended — has gained 100,000 new subscribers since Jan. 6., the very day that a violent mob descended on the U.S. Capitol.

Following the impeachment, Trump issued a statement on the violence that took place at the U.S. Capitol.

"As I have said, the incursion at the U.S. Capitol struck at the very heart of our Republic. It angered and appalled millions of Americans across the political spectrum," he said in a Wednesday statement. "I want to be very clear. I unequivocally condemn the violence that we saw last week. Violence and vandalism have absolutely no place in our country, and no place in our movement.

"Making America great again has always been about defending the rule of law, supporting the men and women of law enforcement, and upholding our nation's most sacred traditions and values," he added. "Mob violence goes against everything I believe in, and everything our movement stands for. No true supporter of mine could ever endorse political violence."

Fake News as usual

https://www.rt.com/usa/512542-cnn-correction-ted-lieu-crowbar/

CNN has corrected an article about the Trump supporters who stormed the US Capitol last week, after dramatically claiming Rep. Ted Lieu fled his office with a “crowbar” during the incident. He had actually grabbed an energy bar.

In the correction, CNN admitted that a “previous version of this story misstated” that the Democratic congressman had “grabbed a crowbar before leaving his office.”

“He grabbed a ProBar energy bar,” it then clarified.

(Bloomberg) – New York state’s top law enforcement official sued New York City’s police department and Mayor Bill de Blasio over officers’ treatment of people protesting the murder of George Floyd last May.

New York Attorney General Letitia James filed the civil rights lawsuit Thursday, less than a month after the mayor vowed to adopt stricter police oversight following an internal investigation by the city that found widespread instances of excessive force.

While it isn’t unusual for federal prosecutors to go after local police departments in civil rights cases, the lawsuit by New York pits two of the state’s most powerful Democrats against each other in court. De Blasio’s response to the allegations of police misconduct at the time of the protests was widely criticized as lacking. James was quick to respond to the complaints.

The suit follows a months-long probe by the state that was joined by former U.S. attorney general Loretta Lynch. James and Lynch in June held a public hearing into the conduct of police during weeks of Black Lives Matter protests, including numerous witnesses who alleged police attacked peaceful protesters without provocation.
