Florida Man, Whose Victims Included Children And Foreign Nationals, Indicted On Federal Human Trafficking Charges
Tampa, Florida – United States Attorney Maria Chapa Lopez announces the return of an indictment charging David Alan Quarles (49, Odessa) with conspiracy; sex trafficking by force, threats, fraud, or coercion; importation of an alien for the purpose of prostitution; transportation of an individual in interstate commerce for the purpose of prostitution; and using a facility of interstate commerce in aid of prostitution. If convicted on all counts, Quarles faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison. The indictment also notifies Quarles that the United States intends to forfeit assets alleged to have facilitated these offenses or that are traceable to proceeds of the offenses.
According to the indictment, Quarles and his conspirators recruited victims, some of whom were children or foreign nationals, to engage in prostitution. Quarles used violent, fraudulent, or otherwise coercive tactics—including physical violence, sexual assault, threats of violence, and misrepresenting the nature of their employment before the victims began working—to recruit victims or keep the victims engaged in prostitution. Quarles and his conspirators allegedly directed these victims to engage in prostitution, posted advertisements featuring these victims, and arranged for the victims to travel across the United States to work. Quarles required his victims to send him the money that they had earned or seek his permission to spend funds on necessities.

Navarro Claims Trump Was 'Legally Elected' and Second Impeachment Was an Act of 'Violence'
Following the November 2020 election, the incumbent president, Donald Trump claimed that his opponent's victory was fraudulent, leading his ardent supporters to echo unfounded claims as a rejection of the upcoming 20 January transition to a Biden presidential administration.
Peter Navarro, a top trade adviser appointed by Donald Trump, is continuing to claim that the outgoing US president was "legally" elected, reiterating his position to Fox Business Network on Thursday.
Speaking to Fox's Maria Bartiromo, Navarro also claimed that Trump would emerge victorious in any second run of the election.
"The Democratic Party did violence to this country by attacking a president, who I believe was legally elected on November 3,' Navarro asserted. 'If the election were held today, he'd be elected again. And if he runs in 2024, he will be elected then. And I think that’s what the Democrats fear".

In response to a question regarding a so-called 'attack on free speech' - referring to President Trump's violation of user terms and subsequent removal from social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook in the wake of the deadly Capitol Hill attack and the deaths of five people - Navarro suggested that it was a "classic collusive oligopoly" and "kind of new wine in an old bottle".
The Trump appointee expressed his anger with Google, Apple, and Amazon after the tech giants deleted the unmoderated conservative social media site Parler, which bill itself as unrestricted alternative to conventional social media platforms.
"When Amazon came in for the brutal kill, by taking the cloud away from Parler, as a small company, it was no longer able to access its data and effectively Amazon wiped out that company", Navarro stated. "I think they've got a heck of a lawsuit for damages there because of what was done".
On Wednesday's vote impeaching Trump a second time in the House of Representative, which saw 10 Republicans support the Democratic caucus in the move, Navarro characterized the vote as a "travesty".
"And I’ve never been more pissed off in my life at this place", he declared.
Navarro warned of "74 million Americans out there who voted for President Trump who feel exactly the same way", demanding that lawmakers give up on sending the House impeachment to the Senate.
Navarro, an economist appointed by Trump who has served as the latter's White House trade adviser since 2017, on Thursday claimed without presenting any direct evidence that the November 2020 election saw massive voter fraud in swing states which saw Democratic candidate Joe Biden secure the victory.
Entitled: 'Yes, President Trump Won', Navarro's comments claimed that there were ballots alleged to be fraudulent, including nearly 1 million "possible illegal votes" in Pennsylvania, which he says went to Biden by just under 100,000.

The White House advisor's most recent allegations come one day after his boss's second impeachment by the House of Representatives, following accusations that Trump incited the deadly riots on Capitol Hill in a failed attempt to stop the confirmation of what the outgoing US president continues to claim was a stolen election.
If Trump is convicted by the Senate, it will bar him from any future attempts to run for the White House.
Citing a number of allegations in key states claiming that the Biden campaign received ballots from dead voters and how mail-in ballots saw initial leads for Trump overcome by more votes for the Democratic ticket, the outgoing president and his supporters continue to complain that the election was stolen.
While these challenges have been consistently rejected in state and federal courts, a group of Trump supporters on January 6 violently stormed the Capitol building, killing five and inflicting widespread damage and vandalism in an attempt to stop the electoral college vote confirmation and prevent Joe Biden from being officially declared the next US president.

Despite draconian lockdown measures, Los Angeles is now the nation's hottest spot for COVID-19 infections

By all accounts, Los Angeles and its surrounding areas have consistently had some of the strictest — if not the strictest — lockdown measures in the country. They were one of the first areas of the country to institute a "stay at home order," one of the last areas of the country to partially reopen this summer, and one of the first areas to institute mask mandates and strict lockdown measures when COVID-19 began to see a resurgence in the winter.
In fact, while most of the rest of the country has at least resumed some of the activity that was paused by lockdowns even as winter has driven case numbers higher, California instituted a nighttime curfew in late November and Los Angeles instituted a second stay-at-home order on Nov. 27, making it one of the few jurisdictions in America to do so.
While almost every other county in America has had some measure of in-person learning in schools, Los Angeles schools (as well as schools in the rest of the state) have remained stubbornly closed.
Los Angeles has also taken harsher enforcement measures against individuals and businesses who do not comply with the coronavirus lockdown orders, levying huge fines and even threatening utility cutoffs for businesses and residents who don't comply.
None of it has helped — nor, for that matter, has Los Angeles' famously moderate climate. Los Angeles has experienced a 1,000% increase in COVID-19 cases since Nov. 1, according to the Los Angeles County director of health, and the virus shows no sign of slowing down. Hospitals in the county report that they are overflowing with COVID-19 cases.
Los Angeles County is, by all accounts, the current epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States.
County officials seem mostly content to double down on the measures that have thus far failed to contain the spread of the virus, even going so far as to issue recommendations for Los Angeles residents to wear masks inside their homes. They are also mounting a full-court press to convince the public to actually abide by the coronavirus guidelines, even though their most prominent leaders have not.
According to most recent estimates, as many as 1 in 3 Los Angeles County residents have been infected with the novel coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. Los Angeles public health experts have blamed the area's soaring infection rate on its population density, as well as massive "pandemic fatigue" and refusal to comply with regulations on the part of the public.

A Fake National Guard Memo Warning of Nationwide Lockdown Is Circulating Again
Some scams just won't go away, such as the fake memo, sporting a National Guard logo, warning that troops are being mobilized to enforce a nationwide quarantine.
The document first began circulating in March as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in America, prompting National Guard officials to declare it false.
Now, it seems the persistent document is being circulated once again as thousands of Guard troops are deploying to Washington, D.C., and state capitols to beef up security for the Jan. 20 inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

National Guard DC presence will swell to 26,000 for Biden inauguration
U.S. officials say the number of National Guard troops who will pour into the nation’s capital to assist law enforcement with security surrounding the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden has grown to about 26,000.
Officials say Guard members from all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, are deploying to the city. Officials had initially said up to 20,000 would be needed, but that number has grown based on additional requests from law enforcement.
The U.S. officials weren’t authorized to discuss security details publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
As of Thursday, there were roughly 7,000 Guard members in Washington, Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Craig Clapper told Military Times. Thousands more are on their way and officials say 3,000 to 4,000 of those Guard members are armed.
The length of the missions may vary, but Defense Department officials were authorized to deploy the Guard for up to 30 days for the inauguration and surrounding protests.
Pentagon officials approved requests to have some Guard members armed with either long guns or handguns, particularly those Guard members assigned near the U.S. Capitol.

Poland Becomes Latest Country to Roll Out Vaccine Passport
Poland has become the latest country to roll out a “vaccine passport” that will give those vaccinated against the coronavirus the ability to exercise exclusive rights.
Polish deputy Health Minister Anna Goławska has stated that Poles who receive both doses of the COVID-19 vaccination will receive a vaccine passport which will come in the form of a QR code through an electronic public health account – presumably a smartphone application.
The QR code “will be the so-called passport of the vaccinated person, which will confirm that the person has been vaccinated and can use the rights to which vaccinated people are entitled,” Goławska added.

The idea was included in Poland’s National Immunisation Program, adopted by the government in December, which stated that vaccinated people will be able to use public health services without additional testing, not be included in the measures for socialising and they also won’t have to quarantine after being in contact with a person infected with COVID-19.
While not specifically mentioned by the Polish Health Minister, it will remain to be seen if the passport is needed for crossing borders while traveling. Considering it is called a “passport” – along with the adoption of such a document by other countries in recent months for the purpose of travel – points to it inevitably being needed to cross international borders at minimum.
The country had received its first shipment of the two-dose Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in December.
Poland’s decision to issue the vaccine passport comes on the heels of reports that the United Kingdom is set to roll out a similar electronic document for trial in select areas of Britain.
The London Telegraph reported on Tuesday that biometrics firm iProov and cybersecurity firm Mvine have developed a vaccine passport which will be optionally provided as a smartphone app for Brits vaccinated against COVID-19.
Its rollout will take place in two jurisdictions and monitored by the government until March.
UK Public health officials say the passports will help monitor who has received the vaccine.
The Russian government began issuing vaccine passports to inoculated citizens at the start of the year for the purpose of traveling across domestic and international borders.
Denmark, Israel, and the Canadian Province of Ontario have also either announced a vaccine passport or that they are exploring the idea.
As we continue to highlight, the stage appears to be set for a vaccine passport standard to be rolled out worldwide as major players in the global travel industry have signaled that such a document will be an inevitable feature of the “new normal.”
In fact, Singapore Airlines in December became first major carrier to introduce a digital health certificate to verify passengers’ testing history and vaccination status.
