Wyoming GOP: ‘Consensus Is Clear,’ Liz Cheney’s Impeachment Vote Has Sparked Unprecedented Outcry

The Wyoming Republican Party on Wednesday published a list of criticisms it received from constituents about House Republican Conference chair Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) vote to impeach President Donald Trump over last week’s deadly riots at the U.S. Capitol.

“There has not been a time during our tenure when we have seen this type of an outcry from our fellow Republicans, with the anger and frustration being palpable in the comments we have received. Our telephone has not stopped ringing, our email is filling up, and our website has seen more traffic than at any previous time,” the Wyoming GOP said in a statement. “The consensus is clear that those who are reaching out to the Party vehemently disagree with Representative Cheney’s decision and actions.”

The Wyoming GOP released comments accusing Cheney of refusing to allow President Trump due process during the House’s impeachment efforts and siding with radical progressives.

“By announcing her decision to vote for impeachment Representative Cheney denied President Trump due process; she judged the ‘evidence’ before it was presented and refused to listen to the arguments made,” the statement reads. “Representative Cheney has aligned herself with leftists who are screaming that what happened last Wednesday is the ‘worst thing ever in our history’ (or similar such claims). That is absurd and shows their lack of knowledge of history as well as their willingness to skew the facts to further their corrupt agenda.”

The vote to impeach President Trump was approved by the House on Wednesday by a vote of 232 to 197, with Cheney being among the ten Republicans who supported the measure.

“On January 6, 2021 a violent mob attacked the United States Capitol to obstruct the process of our democracy and stop the counting of presidential electoral votes. This insurrection caused injury, death and destruction in the most sacred space in our Republic,” Cheney said in a statement Tuesday addressing her decision to back impeachment.

“Much more will become clear in coming days and weeks, but what we know now is enough. The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the President,” the lawmaker added. “The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not. There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.”

“I will vote to impeach the President,” she concluded.

Cheney’s vote prompted calls for her resignation from her House GOP leadership post from Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

“We ought to have a second vote,” Jordan told reporters Wednesday. “The conference ought to vote on that.”

Cheney has since rejected such calls.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Cheney told Politico reporter Melanie Zanona. “This is a vote of conscience. It’s one where there are different views in our conference.”

Los Angeles school board authorizes district to sue Gavin Newsom over his plan to reopen schools

Teachers won't return to classrooms

Teachers' unions in California have been remarkably successful thus far at using public pressure to keep the government from forcing them to return to their classrooms on even a part-time basis, as workers in virtually every other field in America have done, and as teachers across most of the rest of the country have done.

However, the patience of California parents with the travails of distance-learning has reached such a critical point that even Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), one of the nation's foremost proponents of COVID-19-inspired lockdowns, has begun to apply pressure on schools to reopen under a "California's Safe Schools for All" framework.

Still, although Newsom has insisted that his plan will allow schools to reopen safely, he has been so effectively cowed by the teachers' unions that he has already publicly declared that if the unions won't allow their teachers to go back to the classroom, he won't attempt to force them. Instead, his plan will merely provide additional funding that will provide for hiring additional teachers and purchasing additional safety equipment for schools that do choose to reopen.

Even this milquetoast and completely inoffensive plan was egregious enough, however, to cause the Los Angeles Unified school board to vote on Tuesday to authorize the district to sue Newsom over the plan. To re-emphasize, the plan the district plans to file a lawsuit over does not require Los Angeles schools to reopen for in-person learning, it merely provides extra money and resources to the district in case they voluntarily decide to.

Apparently, the Los Angeles Unified School District wants the money the governor has touted in his plan, regardless of whether classrooms are reopened or not. Additionally, Los Angeles school superintendent Austin Beutner has criticized the plan for allegedly not doing enough to address the pandemic's disproportionate impact on low-income communities.

According to Beutner, "The Governor's plan does not address the disproportionate impact the virus is having on low-income communities of color,. "It leaves the definition of a 'safe school environment' and the 'standard for reopening classrooms' up to the individual discretion of 1,037 school districts across the state, creating a patchwork of safety standards in the face of a statewide health crisis. And it reverses a statewide commitment to equity-based funding of schools."

Politico notes that the district has not yet filed suit because there is not an official law or program yet to sue over, and further notes that the district hopes to avoid litigation on the matter.

Facebook exec Sheryl (((Sandberg))) blames alt-tech for violent organization

Sandberg deflects, tries to cement Facebook's monopoly by attacking alternatives.

Facebook, which is coming under criticism as the platform that helped those who participated in the Capitol Hill events last week organize, is looking to pin the blame on much smaller, alternative social media competitors.

This criticism of Facebook, once again, boils down to accusations that it doesn’t censor content enough or quickly enough, while the giant is defending itself by arguing that it does – and that most of those who organized their trip to Washington online didn’t even do it there.

According to Facebook’s chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, the huge platform with some 2.5 billion users was not the main place where most people organize to do anything would go – instead, she suggested that this time it took place on the likes of Parler and Gab.

In doing so, Sandberg also boasted about Facebook’s ability to censor content, saying that the protest was “largely” organized on platforms that don’t enforce similar rules.

Speaking for Reuters, she said Facebook can “stop hate” and has “standards and transparency,” and also mentioned some of the content that has lately been removed, like that posted by pro-Trump groups questioning the legitimacy of the US election process, and QAnon supporters.

In other words, she says only Facebook can moderate content effectively – therefore cementing its social media monopoly.

However, this was not enough to appease critics, who say Facebook should have stopped protesters from posting there and on Instagram.

Now those scrutinizing Facebook for this – namely, a group called Coalition for a Safer Web – and going through the platform’s content to prove that it has its share of blame for the Capitol Hill unrest, say that 100,000 people used #StopTheSteal and #FightForTrump hashtags.

And they are not happy with Sandberg playing down the role of Facebook as the place where people organize for protests. Due to the number of users and the reach it has, people around the world often use this social network for that purpose, but the events singled out by the Washington Post as proof of Facebook’s inefficiency at censoring are pro-Trump, anti-lockdown and right-wing ones.

Under this fresh round of pressure to suppress even more content, Facebook felt the need to issue a statement denying that Sandberg was trying to “deflect blame.”

Republicans who voted for Trump impeachment expect ‘someone may try to KILL us,’ buying body armor, says congressman

Peter Meijer (R-Michigan) says he and other Republicans fear for their lives after voting in favor of impeaching President Donald Trump.

“Many of us are altering our routines, working to get body armor, which is a reimbursable purchase that we can make,” Meijer told MSNBC in a Thursday interview.

Meijer was one of 10 Republicans to break from their party and join Democrats in voting for Trump’s impeachment, which now faces an uncertain future as the Senate reconvenes on January 19, a day ahead of Joe Biden’s inauguration, meaning if it moves forward, the impeachment trial would occur during Biden’s first days in office.

“It’s sad that we have to get to that point,” Meijer said of the added precautions being taken in light of the US Capitol siege last week. “But our expectation is that someone may try to kill us.”

“Obviously we saw what happened January 6 and the fact that there are 20,000 national guardsmen in D.C. right now, there’s a feeling that there’s no control here and we don’t know what’s going to happen next,” the Republican added.

Meijer, a freshman congressman who succeeded Justin Amash, himself a conservative Trump critic who switched to the Libertarian Party earlier this year, was praised by liberals for his vote.

The Republican congressman called his decision a “vote of conscience.”

This is not the first time Meijer has claimed, without presenting any real threats, that Republicans who turn on Trump could be in danger. He previously claimed in an interview with Reason that colleagues felt a vote to certify the election in Biden’s favor would “put their families in danger.”

Meijer is the latest lawmaker to claim fears for his safety in light of the US Capitol riot. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) said in an Instagram post this week that she was even scared to isolate with some “white supremacist” lawmakers when the storming of the Capitol was happening, fearing they could turn her over to the rioters.

Nikki Haley Fuels Rumors of 2024 Presidential Bid With Political Action Committee Rollout

While former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has reportedly slammed US President Donald Trump's post-election remarks behind closed doors, she has publicly come to 45's defense regarding Twitter's decision to ban him from the platform, calling the move something that "happens in China, not our country."

Haley fueled rumors of a possible 2024 presidential bid on Wednesday after issuing supporters an email announcement about her new political action committee (PAC), dubbed "Stand for America" - the same name as her 501(c)(4) issue advocacy group.

Addressing her "fellow patriot," Haley began her email recounting her final days as UN ambassador.

"When I sat in the Oval Office before my last press conference as UN Ambassador, I made a promise to keep standing for America," the 48-year-old wrote. "I renewed that promise last fall at the Republican National Convention."

"I am not done, not by a long shot," Haley emphasized.

Why did I just get this email from @NikkiHaley

Is this her announcement for 2024? pic.twitter.com/o4Mx9N5TaX

— 2xR (@Richie0496) January 13, 2021

Rumors of Haley's potential campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 have continued to spread, and the former ambassador recently defended the US president regarding his ban from Twitter.

Silencing people, not to mention the President of the US, is what happens in China not our country. #Unbelievable

— Nikki Haley (@NikkiHaley) January 8, 2021

At the same time, Politico reported last week that Haley privately rebuked the US president's conduct ahead of the deadly riots and storming of the Capitol building in Washington, DC, on January 6.

“President Trump has not always chosen the right words,” Haley reportedly said on January 7 during a closed-door event at the RNC’s winter meeting in Florida, according to a source Politico said was "familiar" with her comments. "He was wrong with his words in Charlottesville, and I told him so at the time. He was badly wrong with his words yesterday. And it wasn’t just his words. His actions since Election Day will be judged harshly by history."

The reports of the private condemnation have sparked conversations about Haley possibly setting herself up to possibly take on Trump for the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential election.

However, Haley's email shied away from mentioning the 2024 presidential race. It was also free of any mention of the US president.

Instead, the former US ambassador's Stand for America PAC will be “laser-focused on the 2022 midterms and electing a conservative force to the House of Representatives and US Senate to serve as a bulwark against the liberal agendas of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi," the email said, according to The Hill.

Haley went on to invite supporters to assist with "recruiting, advising, training, and financially supporting strong conservatives to run in key House and Senate races to take back control of both [legislative] chambers."

— Aly O. 👁💩 U Not (@todaly01) January 13, 2021

She also called on GOP allies to defend Republican incumbents "who are being targeted for defeat" - particularly those who are first-time officeholders and/or live in swing-states.

"Sitting on the sidelines and waiting to get involved is akin to doing nothing at all," Haley argued. "And given the stakes, that's not an option for us."

Following the two Democratic victories in Georgia's Senate runoff races, Democrats will soon hold control of the US House of Representatives and the Senate. While both parties have 50 lawmakers in the Senate, the tie-breaking vote will be given to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, a Democrat.

Chaney Denton, a spokesperson for the former US ambassador, also shot down 2024 campaign rumors in relation to the Stand for America PAC.

“There’s nothing to read into that," the spokesperson told Axios. "Amb. Haley frequently and proudly mentions her work alongside President Trump in speeches and writings. The purpose of SFA PAC is to support Republicans in the 2022 midterm elections.”

Italy’s ex-PM Berlusconi admitted to hospital over heart problems

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been admitted to a hospital in Monaco for tests after suffering an irregular heart beat, his spokesman and doctor said on Thursday.

According to Italian reports, the former PM was in Valbonne, France when he felt ill. His personal doctor, Alberto Zangrillo, saw the former premier on Monday and recommended he be admitted to a hospital in nearby Monaco rather than return to his native Italy for treatment.

While it’s not currently clear if Berlusconi has overcome the symptoms he was experiencing, Zangrillo stated that he expects him to “return home within a few days,” once test results have come back and doctors clear him for discharge.

Berlusconi is still the head of opposition party, Forza Italia, and his recent hospital admission comes amid political turmoil in the country, with the governing coalition on the verge of collapse following the decision of its junior partner, Italy Alive, to pull out of their agreement.

The 84-year-old political figure and media magnate has suffered numerous health problems in recent years, having been hospitalized back in September for 11 days after contracting coronavirus during a holiday to his villa in Sardinia. He also underwent open heart surgery in 2016.

Biden Stimulus Plan Leaks: Here's What's In It

Update: Bloomberg has released further details of Biden's $1.9 trillion plan which includes "a wave of new spending, including more direct payments to households, an expansion of jobless benefits, more money for state and local governments and an expansion of vaccinations and virus-testing programs." The proposal also calls for a $15 federal minimum wage and more eviction protections.

Here are the main highlights:

Stimulus Checks

The plan includes a central promise of Democrats: boosting direct payments to individuals to $2,000 for most Americans, on top of the $600 that Congress approved in December.

The plan would also allow residents who are married to undocumented residents to receive stimulus payments – who were barred in prior rounds.

Vaccinations, Testing

Biden’s plan includes $20 billion to create a national vaccine distribution program that would offer free shots to all U.S. residents regardless of immigration status.

The plan calls for creating community vaccination centers and deploying mobile units in hard-to-reach areas. Biden is also calling for $50 billion to ramp up testing efforts, including purchasing rapid-result tests, expanding lab capacity and helping local jurisdictions implement testing regimens.

State Aid

Biden is pushing for $350 billion in funding assistance for state, local and territorial governments plus $20 billion for public transit systems.

Democrats for months have pushed for more money to help state and local governments that have faced higher costs and lower tax revenue during the pandemic. States and cities warn they’ll be forced to make deep cuts to public health, safety and education programs without more funding, because they can’t borrow money in the way the federal government can.

Many Republicans have chafed at more money for local governments, however, saying it amounts to a bailout for mismanaged government budgets.

Unemployment Insurance

Biden’s plan would extend and expand unemployment benefits that are scheduled to run out in mid-March. The proposal increases a weekly federal benefit to $400 from $300 and extends it through the end of September.

It also extends benefits for self-employed individuals and gig workers, and those who have exhausted their regular jobless benefits.

Minimum Wage

Biden is calling to more than double the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour from $7.25, a proposal that could alienate Republicans. In addition, he seeks to end the tipped minimum wage used widely by restaurants and the hospitality industry. At $2.13 an hour, it gives lower minimums to employees that get tips.

Paid Leave

The Biden plan would create a requirement for employers, regardless of size, to offer paid sick leave during the pandemic to workers – a change that the transition team says will extend the benefit to 106 million workers. Parents and family members caring for sick relatives or out-of-school children could receive more than 14 weeks of paid sick and family leave.

The plan would provide benefits of up to $1,400 per week and tax credits for employers with fewer than 500 employees to reimburse them for the cost of the leave.

Tax Credits, Childcare

Biden would expand tax credits for low- and middle- income families and make them refundable for 2021. He is proposing to expand the child tax credit to $3,000 from $2,000 for each child 17 and younger. Children under age six would be eligible for $3,600.

Biden is also requesting $25 billion for a stabilization fund to help open child-care centers and $15 billion in grants to support essential workers in meeting childcare costs.

Jared & Ivanka barred Secret Service from using their toilets, forcing them to pay $100K+ to rent nearby bathroom – report

Secret Service personnel assigned to guard the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner were forbidden to use the pair’s 6.5 bathrooms, allegedly forcing them to rent an entire apartment at taxpayer expense.

The president’s oldest daughter and her husband reportedly refused to allow their Secret Service detail to use any of the half-dozen bathrooms in their home, located in the upscale DC neighborhood of Kalorama, according to neighbors and law enforcement officials who spoke to the Washington Post on Thursday.

This obviously left the protection detail in a bit of a pickle, and the agents reportedly spent “months” hunting down a toilet that would be convenient to the 5,000-square-foot home. Efforts to install a port-a-potty outside met with condemnation from the pair’s wealthy neighbors, and it wasn’t always feasible to hightail it over to another Secret Service outpost, like the homes of former President Barack Obama and Vice President Mike Pence – especially after, according to WaPo, a member of the Trump/Kushner detail “left an unpleasant mess in the Obama bathroom.”

Delta puts pro-Trump customers who yelled at Mitt Romney & Lindsey Graham on NO-FLY list

Customers who were recently caught on tape heckling Republican Senators Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) are now banned from flying with Delta Airlines, says its CEO.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian announced the ban on Thursday alongside other security measures being put in place following the storming of the US Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump last week.

Both Romney and Graham were the target of pro-Trump supporters at airports in recent viral videos, where they were confronted for not supporting overturning the presidential victory of Joe Biden.

Both Republican senators were branded “traitors” by customers confronting them. One of the people identified in the Graham video is former congressional candidate and actress Mindy Robinson, who was also recently banned from Twitter as part of the social media platform’s purge of accounts promoting election fraud allegations.

On top of customers being placed on the airline’s no-fly list, guns will not be allowed to be checked for anyone flying to the Washington metropolitan area ahead of Biden’s January 20 inauguration.

“We’re all on high alert based on the events over the last couple of weeks in Washington,” Bastian told CNBC on Thursday.

Delta faced a $12 billion loss in 2020 due to flying restrictions put in place to help curb the Covid-19 pandemic – its first loss since 2009.

‘Home Alone 2’ star Macaulay Culkin joins call to remove Trump cameo from 1992 film

Former child actor Macaulay Culkin has lent his support to fans’ call to replace a cameo in his film ‘Home Alone 2’ by Donald Trump – a mere real estate tycoon at the time – with an adult version of Culkin himself.

On Wednesday, the now-grown child actor tweeted his support for “digitally replacing” Trump’s brief appearance in the sequel to his hit ‘Home Alone’ with an image of Culkin himself as a 40-year-old.

While Culkin replied “Sold” to a fan’s suggestion that Trump be replaced with an adult Culkin, he also seemed partial to a fan-created version in which Trump was erased entirely, leaving an odd-looking man-shaped cutout in the footage. The former child actor applauded the Trumpless version with a “Bravo.”

While Trump made a habit of allowing film crews to shoot in his buildings in return for bit parts in their movies, ‘Home Alone 2’ director Chris Columbus acknowledged in an interview last month that the scene was saved from the cutting room floor because screening audiences actually cheered for the familiar figure. Of course, Trump hadn’t yet gone into politics and was merely known as the larger-than-life businessman behind ‘The Art of the Deal’ at the time.

Trump has essentially become persona non grata in Hollywood and the media following last week’s invasion of the Capitol by his supporters, and various Trump-hating factions have yet to make up their minds who should replace him in those film cameos. A Change.org petition to have him replaced by President-elect Joe Biden had fewer than 500 signatures as of Thursday afternoon, despite the author’s impassioned plea to “save Christmas” by removing Trump from “this Hollywood classic.”

Trump fans and foes alike weren’t particularly keen on digging through decades-old films to excise the twice-impeached president from them, however.

In sworn affidavit, FBI agent says liberal activist was participating in Capitol riot

Activist has claimed he was there to film the event.

An FBI agent has claimed in a sworn affidavit that a progressive activist was participating in the Capitol riot of Jan. 6, taking an active role in the chaos that unfolded that day rather than merely being present to document the riot as he earlier claimed.

John Sullivan, an anti-Trump activist from Utah, told Just the News last week that he had been present at the riot, including inside the Capitol, "specifically [as] a journalist, just to record the events that were going down."

Yet FBI agent Matthew Foulger alleged in an affidavit on Wednesday that, rather than merely act as a journalist during the riots, Sullivan "knowingly and willfully joined a crowd of individuals who forcibly entered the U.S. Capitol and impeded, disrupted, and disturbed the orderly conduct of business by the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate."

Foulger in the affidavit said that footage taken by Sullivan at the riot shows the activist accompanying and cheering on the rioting crowd by saying things such as "Let’s go. This shit is ours!" and "Let's burn this shit down."

The FBI agent suggested Sullivan be charged with obstruction of law enforcement, unlawful entry, disorderly conduct and several other crimes.

Sullivan did not immediately respond to a query from Just the News on Thursday about the affidavit and whether he has yet been charged with any crime.
