Rep. Meijer says vote to impeach Trump may have been 'political suicide'
A day after voting to impeach President Donald Trump, U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer, R-Grand Rapids, acknowledged it was politically risky but said he had to vote his conscience.
"It may have been an act of political suicide but it's what I felt was necessary for the good of the country, to have accountability in this moment but also to set a path to moving forward," Meijer told the Free Press on Thursday.

California National Guard activated to help secure state Capitol against potential armed protests
Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a general order authorizing the deployment of up to 1,000 National Guard personnel “to protect critical infrastructure, including the state Capitol,” according to a news release issued Thursday.

A spokeswoman for Historic Royal Palaces told CNN on Thursday that Merlina had flown off two weeks ago and not returned, which “indicates to us that she may have, sadly, passed away.”
Ravens have been a mainstay for centuries at the Tower of London, England’s most famous execution site.
In the 1600s, Charles II decreed that six of the birds must live at the tower at all times, otherwise the tower and the kingdom would fall. The tower will now be left with seven of the intelligent birds — Jubilee, Harris, Gripp, Rocky, Erin, Poppy and George — as spares are kept on hand.
