The regions used to be called Judea, but after one of the revolts by the Jews, which ever Roman leader was in charge at the time, had had enough and decided to change the regions name to the worst thing he could think of from a Jewish perspective. He knew that the Philistines gave them trouble in the past, so as a sort of insult, he named the region Palestine, which is a version of Philistine. I think it's the Greek way of saying Philistine, not sure.
