The fact there is at least one full division of combat deployed infantry in DC and the number seems to be growing by the day is certainly intriguing.

There are currently 10x as many soldiers in the capitol as there are in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

By classical military breakdown we would actually say there are two divisions as we usually don't stack them full to 25,000 and most are kept at around 10k. The fact it keeps growing by around 5,000 per day (if the numbers are to be believed) is rather interesting.

I mean, I suppose when you figure estimates for the Trump Rally were well over 100k and approaching or exceeding 1M by some estimates - a mere 25k troops would be helpless against an unarmed mob intent on their destruction.

Which kind of puts it all into perspective.

But something tells me this is more than a little awkward.

3M is… Well it outclasses our total combined military and LEO if you were to take every store clerk and yeoman and put them on the front lines.

Granted, field artillery would make short work of mobs of people and is why you would not find me in one during these times (I have zero faith some jackass won't submunition the field) - but the raw operating numbers there are off the charts.

Which is part of what makes me curious…. Absolutely massive numbers of troops, but relatively little support equipment from some of what I am seeing. While they certainly have air support on hand, artillery would be essential for effective prevention of an over-run if that is what they are concerned about. Air support simply doesn't have the suppression capability that a good artillery battery does.

Gaming this from their side - it seems more like a knee-jerk response than anything else… Or there are other motives behind it.
