Did Trump not appear to be in total control, leading up to the November 3rd election? (and even after?)
Would you all have needed reassurance that Trump (+ Patriots) were in complete control, if the public optics at the time were that Trump was in complete control?

Even Trump admitted that he had to "play the game" when he was a developer in order to get his projects approved. (pay off the politicians in the form of campaign donations)
